Market News

Forest Run Farm is offering spinach and Asian Greens again this week, produced in the Hoop House. They also have head lettuce in green and Red varieties.

The herbs look wonderful! Lovage has a celery flavor, and is best first thing in the spring. Chives have arrived in the field.

Vegetable plants are still available—peppers and tomatoes and herbs—but quantities are limited. Note that CSA credit can not be used on plants, so please pay for them with cash or check.

Friday pick up will be 4-6pm. Please make alternate arrangements for pick up if needed.

How to use Lovage

Cook with lentils- saute a few leaves with onions, add lentils and cook slowly.

Chop the leaves and add to cream cheese—use as a stuffing in a chicken breast.

Pesto is traditionally made with basil, but can be made with most herbs. I use sorrel and lovage.

Lovage, chopped finely, can be used on a pizza topping.

Lovage and is excellent with fish, such as salmon.

Chop the leaves in a fresh leaf and herb salad- dress with your favorite dressing.

Leek and lovage soup- it sounds good and tastes fantastic- the leeks and lovage really work well together.

Madison GA:  The Market is Open!!

See everyone Wed.!!

Swainsboro, GA:  MARKET IS OPEN

Hi Everyone,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. The market is now open. Look below to see what the farmers have to offer this week

Wildfire Farm--CSA Online Market:  New Market for 2013

Hey all,
We’ve tweaked this online market to be primarily for our CSA customers. Your bags will arrive as scheduled on Monday, or Thursday. We may have extra salad this week. I’ve made it available for ordering, but only if you want extra. Not sure how much extra there’ll be, which is why the estimated quantity is zero. The site will still let you order since that is an estimated rather than exact quantity. Hope you all like this. We have small quantities of herbs listed here for sale. These will be additions only if you order them since they are not normally included in your bags. There are plenty of eggs right now cause it’s springtime!!

CLG:  Opening Bell

Greetings Conway Locally Grown Community,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the farmers, volunteers, and customers who participated in yesterday’s farm tour. It was a real pleasure to see so many families enjoying the beautiful Ozarks and getting to know some of our unique, hardworking farmers. It is my hope that participants got a feel not only for the quality of production practiced by our growers but also the quality of individuals and families that work together to produce our great food. Good work everyone!

The market is now open. Go to to place your order. Single click the checkout button when you’re finished, and you will receive a confirmation email when you’re order has been placed.

Thank you and have a wonderful week.
Best regards,
Gabe Levin
CLG Market Director

Market pickup last Thursday was busy, busy! Mary and I were without Betsy, our favorite, efficient volunteer and boy did it make a difference! We had a good time, but we were hopping! Every week we are adding new customers to the Market and we love taking the time to meet and greet the ‘newbies’ as well as chat with our regulars! Thank you for continuing to share the Market with friends and family! You are part of the reason Heirloom Family Market is growing! That means our message of eating local, fresh products, getting to know your Farmer/Grower and where you food comes from is spreading – and we believe that is a very good thing!

Are you interested in becoming a Market Volunteer? Please call us and let us know! We will tell you all about it and how it works. (There are perks!) You can reach me at 404-432-4337 or Mary at 404-245-2919! Volunteer and get to know others in the Heirloom Living Market!

Heritage Farm just processed chickens! For those of you who make bone broth – there are chicken feet and backs! For those who haven’t tried to make your own bone broth, please ask Mary or Maryanne about this awesome, nutrient-dense food. There will be a recipe waiting for you at Market pickup on Thursday! Thanks, Greg for providing the resources with pastured chickens and grass-fed meats so that we can eat Real food and be assured of the quality!

Back River Farm has Hakurei Turnips! If you have never tried these little treasures you are in for a treat! Crispy and flavorful! I have sauteed, roasted, sliced for salads and fried to make chips! Am contemplating slicing some to dehydrate — sliced VERY thin for chips! Also doing Kale for Kale Chips! Yummy!

Russell Johnston of Johnston Family Farm has let me know that the raw, creamy fresh-frozen milk is out of stock! The GREAT news is there will be fresh ‘you-might-could-call-this-cream-if-it-weren’t-illegal-to-do-so’ “milk” this week! As much as I love Goat Milk, I cannot pass up the opportunity to get some FRESH (not frozen)“Creamy” milk from Johnston Family Farm. The girls have been feasting on new Spring grasses and the result is rich milk (cream)so rich and good you can use it to make ice cream or butter! (for your pets, of course since All raw milk is labeled for ‘Pet Consumption’ as required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and is the only way raw milk can legally be sold in the state of Georgia.) Aw man! Dudley loves butter! It is a good thing he doesn’t know how to open the fridge…hmmm think I need to be diligent about keeping the butter keeper pushed W A Y back on the counter!

Mother’s Day is coming to a close. There are those that are blessed to still have their Mother in their lives; there are those who are blessed to have their children. Please take a moment to remember those who are without either. If not a phone call or an email, say a special prayer for them. Some things we take for granted – don’t miss the opportunity to bless someone with a thought!
