Beets and Onions – Pickled – No Sugar: Bo & Lisa’s Lil Patch:
Made from organic beets , organic onions, and gluten-free organic pickling spices, along with vinegar. Chill and eat with salads , hamburgers or plain. Note: these beets and onions are pure, and simple , with no sugar. Store bought beets are full of high fructose corn syrup and you of course do not want that. Fresh & Local; Processed Foods: Pickles & Relishes

Nature’s Call Toilet Spray: Dawewood Farm: Here is Ellen’s description: "This awesome product should be mandatory in all bathrooms and ladies purses! No dangerous fumes or aerosols to inhale. As we like to say “spray into the toilet before going #2 and no one will ever know!” This septic safe product creates a barrier on the top of the toilet water where “fumes” are trapped. Simply shake the canister 4-5 times and spray directly into the toilet water before you go #2! You will want one for every bathroom in the house and one for the purse too! Seriously." The original product by a nationally known company hit the internet about a year ago. I thought, “well…..” Lol! Fresh & Local: Bath & Beauty

HandCrafted Olive Oil Soap: Dawewood Farm: FarmHouse HandCrafted Olive Oil Soap is made from saponified olive oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, fragrance oil & spices, herbs or grains if indicated. Great for sensitive skin, moisturizing and has such a luxurious lather! This soap comes in Peppermint, Lavender, Coconut, Kudzu and Cranberry. Please indicate which fragrance you prefer in the comments section when you check out. Fresh & Local: Bath & Beauty

All Natural Tooth Powder – Peppermint Clove: Bo & Lisa’s: From Lisa: "Wow! I am on my 4th month of using this Tooth Powder. I would say it should last one person 4-6 months. My teeth feel squeaky clean after i rinse, even though it kinda of looks like dirt while i am brushing. The taste is pleasant, the smell is pleasant, and the ingredients are great for your gums and teeth!! All you do is dip your dry toothbrush in the powder once and brush away. Your teeth and gums will thank you. The ingredients are quite expensive, however a little goes a long way. My friend Sandra gave this to me and has given me permission to make it and offer you this treat for your teeth. We use only the good stuff: Bentonite Clay, naturally extracted Baking soda, unrefined sea salt, Clove Powder, Myrrh gum powder, unrefined Stevia powder, and a few essential oils. SPECIAL NOTE: do you know that fluoride is now found to be extremely destructive to your thyroid? That feeling “I’m tired, sluggish, feel fat feeling”, well that’s your thyroid on fluoride! We are committed to coming up with products to help you eliminate these chemicals from your life. One by one together we make progress toward that goal! Thank you for being a supporter of our passion and our Lil Patch. " Good stuff! Find it here: Fresh & Local: Bath & Beauty

DON’T FORGET ELLEN’S FABULOUS POUND CAKE IS HERE!
The pound cakes are online!
I think most of you have tried the to-die-for pound cakes we’ve occasionally had as an add-on at market. Now they are available to order! FarmHouse Pound Cakes, Grower: DaweWood Farm. Because Ellen has so many varieties available, here’s how to order:

1). Place the order like you would any other product, either regular pound cake (under Baked Goods, then “Sweets” OR Baked Goods, then “Gluten-Free”.

2). When you check out, there is a space for comments under products you order where you can leave a grower/producer a message.

3). Let Ellen know which flavor you would like, which she lists in the description.

Easy-Peasy – Scrumptious Pound Cakes every week. Sounds kind of dangerous to me, lol!

Dave brought some extras last week, but I can’t be sure there will be any add-ons in the near future, so it’s best to place an order. The freeze well. If you can keep them long enough to get them in the freezer. [How do I know THAT?]

Ellen also has doggie treats and granola which I will be profiling soon, as well as another new vendor coming on board. In the mean time, look around and see all the exciting new things!

THE BEST GARLIC RECIPE. EVER!
Did anybody roast their garlic last week?
My husband does not care to eat it like a veggie, so I will be waiting till he goes out of town to do it. And probably not for a Tuesday lunch, you know, right before market, lol. But I can’t wait!

Repeating the recipe information:

Here is the recipe for Roasted Garlic Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s found. I am an avid fan of Pioneer Woman, a tv show on one of the cable cooking channels, in no small part because she lives on a working ranch, which is well-integrated into her show.

CLICK HERE NOW to Shop Gwinnett Locally Grown!

SPECIAL NOTE: Leah Lakes and Sylvan Falls Mill will be out for the next couple months. The delivery schedule was changed and they will not be in this area on Tuesdays :-( (They are up in the mountains.) I will try to find another veggie vendor to fill in, but the heat of the summer down around here is starting to fry the gardens, and most farmers plan their markets in the fall and winter for the following year. If you know of anybody who may have veggies available to sell through our market, please have them contact me at grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com. Products must be certified organic, certified naturally grown, or pesticide-free.

My best to all -

Shop often and eat well!

Please contact grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com for questions pertaining to Market or Raw Milk. It is very difficult to return phone calls. Remember to interact with us on Facebook and follow us on Meetup to get notification on all our wonderful events and news. If you are interested in Goat’s Milk and can pick up any day but Tuesday, contact Nik The Goat Guy at 404-542-0981. Goats have to be milked every day and a week-end pick-up would be lovely. For right now, we generally have some goat’s milk available during market hours, whether you have placed a market order or not. Please call Nik first to verify. Please contact him first though, we can’t accommodate walk-ins due to hosting private events almost every week-end!

Old99Farm Market:  Beef and Veal

I’ve uploaded all the items now in the freezer of veal (beef about 12 months old, compared to 30 months for prime beef and who knows for store bought hamburg) and beef.

I worked out the prices for the quarters compared to buying all individual cuts that are included in a quarter. With some price changes to items like ground beef, it works out to about the same cost.

The yield after cutting, deboning, etc. is about 74% so your effective cost per lb of meat, buying a quarter, is $6.75. That’s as plain as I can make it.

This is heritage Lynch Lineback beef, flavourful, pasture-fed and finished, grown by me right here.

Go to the beef section and the veal section of the Meats tab to see the listings.

Auburn Locally Grown:  This week at the Acre Market

Just wanted to let you know that we will be selling produce out front of Acre Restaurant on Glenn Avenue in Auburn from 5 -7 p.m. today (Wednesday). Specials this week include freshly picked summer squash and cucumbers for $2.00/pound. Here is your chance to make some easy and delicious refrigerator pickles. This is the recipe that I used: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/08/garlic-dill-pickles.html. They turned out very yummy! Kirby cucumbers are small pickling type cucumbers, which you can get a lot of at this market. Or if you prefer a probiotic pickle, here is a recipe from Sandor Katz’s Wild Fermentation book: http://www.wildfermentation.com/making-sour-pickles-2/.

We will also have tomatoes and potatoes for sale.

Remember these are vegetables grown without the use of synthetic chemicals so they are safe for your whole family to enjoy.

Hope to see you this evening at the Acre market.

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  Newsletter - July 30, 2014

Market News

The market is open and ready for you to place orders online. You may pay here or when you pick up with either cash, check or a credit card. A 3% convenience fee is added to all credit card payments.

We’ve reached that busy part of the year, when the slowness of summer turns over to the hustle and bustle of another school year and the gardens go into overdrive producing more than most people can handle. Often, late in August, it gets so hot here that everything pauses (flowers can’t set fruit when it’s really hot for too long), but for now all the squash, all the tomatoes, the okra, and so forth of going gangbusters. If you’ve never tried preserving the summer harvest, now is a great time to learn. Former Athens Locally Grown member Liana Krissoff has a wonderful book, “Canning for a New Generation: Bold, Fresh Flavors for the Modern Pantry”, that is both a great introduction and a valuable resource of more seasoned folks. Equipment is easy to come by, and there’s little impediment to getting started. There are also many great online resources for preserving the summer produce, www.pickyourown.org is a good place to start.

All Group Orders are pre-paid for pickup at a later date. Watch this newsletter each week for pick up day.
