Champaign, OH:  Woodstock

We are stardust…
We are golden…
And weve got to get ourselves…
Back to the garden…
(Woodstock-Joni Mitchell)

Introducing the newest duo to this little local market of love…

Hippie and the Farmer, LLC is a business that was formed between Cosmic Charlie Bread and Oakview Farm Meats. We offer, sell, distribute boxes of themed, once a month, boxes to individuals and corporations. Farm fresh goodness, just one field away, from our farm to your door. These boxes are packed with assorted frozen meats, produce, breads, seasonal local fruit, assorted other seasonal items, newsletters, recipes, menu plans, shopping lists, and fun music playlists. These boxes can be purchased by visiting our Facebook page at Hippie and the Farmer. The popularity of our boxes rests on the unknown theme, each month, and the surprise of the contents, each month!

BUT..HERE, NOW, FOR A LIMITED TIME, THIS SEASON…

We would like to offer Hippie and the Farmer mixed produce boxes to our online market, here! The produce comes from the three large gardens, on the farm, of Oakview Farm Meats, also the site of the Hippie and the Farmer, LLC fully licensed commercial kitchen.

We use all organic methods of growing in our gardens, but are not certified as organic!

We do local, we are local, we support local.

Hippie and the Farmer mixed produce boxes…a box of local love!

As we pick from our gardens, we will put these items in your boxes! The fun is in the mystery of what you will find! The picture would be a good example of the items, with other produce as well as fresh herbs, as we have them!

You love us and trust us as your market managers, and now you can love us and trust us as Hippie and the Farmer!

Dawson Local Harvest:  "I Don't Give a Fig!"

Dawson Local Harvest for August 5th

“I Don’t Give a Fig!”

But maybe you should. Two or Three, in fact!
HI EVERYONE!
All sorts of Fruits are coming in now. So why should you give a Fig? Because latest to join the fruit parade are Figs from MY BAILY BREAD. These are sweet and delicious Brown Turkey Figs, and if you’ve never had fresh-picked, right off a tree Figs you don’t know what you’ve been missing! They join Blueberries and the return of Blackberries to the Fruit section of The Market this week.

Tomatoes are Back after a short hiatus due to the difficult summer (too hot!). LEILANI’S has some tasty, very nice-sized Tomatoes for sandwiches, burgers, salads, and more. They join ‘Blue Lake’ Green Beans, Squash, various Zucchinis, Cucumbers, and other goodies. Find them in the Vegetable section.

Don’t forget great Gluten-free and organic Breads and Desserts from MY DAILY BREAD. We are really fortunate to have one of the premier bakers in our Market, so please look at their offerings in Baked Goods, Processed and Prepared Foods. There’s some wonderfully delicious treats to discover there!

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

Many of you may know that I live in an old house in Zebulon. What you may not know is that the house, when we bought it in 1998, came with 7 fig trees. That’s right – 7 fig trees! Someone in the house’s past must have really loved figs. Well, just this week, the figs started coming in, and there are a lot of them. During a previous year’s bumper crop, my mother and I made some incredibly delicious fig preserves seasoned with sliced lemon. The lemony preserves made a superb accompaniment to roasted pork.

I really hope that we’ll be able to make another batch or two of those preserves, but in the meantime, if you are like me and have a bumper crop of figs on your hands, here is a link with some ideas about what to do with them: http://www.finecooking.com/articles/in-season-fresh-summer-figs.aspx

Thank you for your support of locally grown agriculture and for choosing to purchase locally. Have a great Sunday, and we’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

ALFN Local Food Club:  Market Is Open

ALFN Members,

We’ve reached the sizzle of summer marking the zenith of summer produce and signaling a transition into fall products. Those cold weather crops we won’t see until September and October, but our growers have begun to seed them with an eye to the future.

The market is open with so much to choose from our new listings of granola and breads from Ozark Breads to okra, frozen sweet corn and winter squashes.

Open ALFN Program/Market Manager Position

I will step down as the program manager this fall and transition to working with other projects associated with ALFN. Consequently, the board is looking for applicants. Please share the job description within your network!

The Arkansas Local Food Network welcomes applicants for the part-time position of Program and Market Manager. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the local food movement to manage our programs, communicate with our stakeholders, and contribute to the sustainability and growth of our mission. A full job description is available by e-mail to arlocalfoodnetwork@gmail.com. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and contact information for two professional references to arlocalfoodnetwork@gmail.com by Sunday, August 14th.

Thanks

CLG:  Opening Bell: Pork Chops, Peppers, Peaches, Mushrooms!

Good afternoon!
I was never a Boy Scout, but I use their motto “Be Prepared” regarding eating local. We buy in bulk when items are available in season so that we can enjoy them during the off season. In the freezer we have spinach and broccoli from Kellogg Valley, purple hull peas from Green Acres Atkins, lima and pinto beans from Bluebird Hill Berry Farm, peach slices from Drewry Orchard, cantaloupe chunks from Hardin Farms, and chicken from KMG Farm and Grass Roots.

This is the time of year when most Growers transition from summer crops to fall crops. We try to coax a little more production from squash, tomatoes, etc. while planting vegetables to harvest as the weather cools. Take a look all around the market and you will find lots of goodies, some to enjoy now, and some to savor during the coming winter.

Don’t forget to check out the recipe page on Conway Locally Grown!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

Usually our volunteers have the market ready for customers to pick up before 4pm. If you are out and about and want to know if we are ready, just text me to see: 501-339-1039.

Check out over 300 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders.

Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!
Have a great week!
