Heirloom Living Market Lawrenceville :  Goat Milk

Goat Milk

It is ‘that time of year’ for the Mama Does at Little Tots Estate! They are ‘drying’ up so they can ready themselves for the births of their kids in November and December. Usually Rusty has some control over this process; however, this year Mother Nature has (completely) taken over the task and most of the Does (Mamas) are no longer giving milk. As a result, Goat Milk will not be on the Market until early December…and then, once again there will be an abundance! Be patient! It will return! As an option, try the delicious tested A2 Raw Cow Milk from Cedar Rock Dairy!

Champaign, OH:  Galway Girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I’ve traveled around I’ve been all over this world
Boys I ain’t never seen nothin’ like a Galway girl…
(Galway Girl-Steve Earle, performed by many)

So, this week…yeah, this week. One of those weeks that knocked you for a loop, gave you crazy goals to accomplish, obligations to fulfill, and then gave you a whole lot of emotion to sort out.

When I get in these busy times, when it looks like I will either get it all done, or I will have a break down that will result in me regrouping, taking off, finding myself, and then returning to kick it all in the ass, is when I turn to what makes me strong, what made me, my roots, and I focus.

Music, obviously, does this for me, in these times. I found myself turning to the music that I could twirl to, dance to, sing to, and give a nod back to where my family all came from. It helps me to think of my grandfather, his Irish roots, my family that hailed from Galway in Ireland.

This song was with me, all week. I love the Irish roots, I love all of the different versions that I could find, I love that part of the Grateful Dead performed it…my roots brought me back to life, this week. Made me remember who I am, who had a part in making me become me, and who would be guiding me, still, if he were still here. My grandfather would give me the time to go work it all out, whatever was weighing on me, and then promptly kick me back into the fold of things.

So, here I am…back to all of you, ready for action, many goals accomplished, this week, many tasks and business obligations completed, and now, here I am…twirling around, looking to bring you all into this market. This little local market of love. The pride that is this community.

Let’s go…let’s all get our twirl on, and take a spin with some ordering love.

I open the market, tonight, with much love…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Food and Fresh Air

Many of you know that here at the Horton house we’ve been going through some much needed home repairs/renovation/remodeling. If you’ve ever lived through something like that while living IN your home you know how taxing it can be on every day life.

We have not sat at a table to eat for about three weeks now. And we haven’t been able to pile up in front of the television with a plate either. What has made this bearable, and even enjoyable is the screen porch. It’s not fancy but the seating is comfy, the charm is rustic and the conversation is good. It has been THE sanity saver around here.

So the following photo is my personal wink and nod of gratitude to food and fresh air. My husband’s Norwegian relatives (300 miles above the Artic Circle) eat outdoors at EVERY opportunity, and with it permitting a lot for us these days, why not?

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our Market vendors work hard to list accurate quantities of what they have available each week. It’s one of the reasons we encourage everyone to order as close to Market opening as possible. It’s also the reason that if you order an item with a 0 or negative quantity you might not receive that item. We work hard to keep that from happening, but just in case . . . now you know!

There are several vendor announcements in this week’s Market section. We hope you’ll take advantage of the FRESHNESS!

Haiti Relief is ongoing and we’re happy to report that donations continue to come in. This week Chris will be shipping a large quantity of seed to the farmers coop of Petit Trou de Nippes. Thank you Sandy Farms for your part in this!

Be sure to keep an eye on the Market schedule as we approach the holidays. Our last November pickup date will be Nov. 18 which is the Friday before Thanksgiving. The next pickup date will the Thursday, December 1 at Dothan Nursery’s annual Christmas Open House. Our farmers will be here in person with treats, samples and lots of items to help get your Christmas Season off to a good start.

If you 1) LOVE candles 2) Love having the air in your home clean, fresh & relaxing 3) Need to help rid an area of unpleasant odors, beeswax candles are for you!. Burning beeswax releases negative ions in the air that cleanse it and help those living with asthma and allergies breathe easier.

MARY’S PEEPS Hand made cakes and muffins. Mary’s Peeps provides good bakery items from a Mom and Grandmother who has been cooking for 40 plus years.

RICHTER FARMS: “New products, smoked link sausage and smoked ham steaks! Also restocked smoked bacon, fresh ham steaks and ribs! Check out our grab bags for 10% off and make buying your meat easier for the week ahead! The hens are still molting so eggs will not be as plentiful but I will list them when I have them! We are working hard here on the farm to provide the best meat and eggs so you can feel good about the food you purchase from us. Thank you for supporting all the Growers here at Market At Dothan.”

SANDSPUR FARMS “While the veggies are growing in the field and the pigs are grazing, we are enjoying the fall. Our cane stalks are ready if you need a fall decoration. You can tie 3 or 4 together and they’ll stand like an indian teepee. Also, we are in the process of canning pumpkin as an alternative to store bought. Which leads to pumpkin bread, of course! Both mini and full size loaves.
We’ve updated some pork inventory too. There’s still one more pork tenderloin available. This is the really tender part of a pork chop that is left whole since we made cubed pork out of the pork chops which utilizes the meaty part of chops. Pork grab bags are still available to fill with smoked bacon or smoked link sausage and pork chops and oh, wow my mouth just started watering! Thank you to each and everyone for all of your purchases that allow us to live the farm life.”

New Vendor:Nature’s Kitchen

I am very excited to welcome Rory Mitchell of Nature’s Kitchen in Roswell to our family of growers and vendors!

Nature’s Kitchen was founded by Rory Mitchell with the help of his wife and son. They began their food journey experimenting with various herbs and spices as a means to improve their health and begin living a healthier lifestyle. They also wanted to introduce the flavors of their cultures to their children. Rory is from Jamaica while his wife is from India. From this came 2 new products -Jammin’ Jerk Marinade and Smokin’ Jerk BBQ Saucinade. They are currently in the process of launching some new flavors as well.

Nature’s Kitchen participated in the 2016 Flavors of Georgia competition and was presented the Food Product Contest Finalist award for their Smokin’ Jerk BBQ Saucinade!

Their sauces and marinades are made with vegetarian ingredients, are gluten free, contain no high fructose corn syrup, and are GMO- free.

I used the Jammin’ Jerk Marinade and the Smokin’ Jerk BBQ Saucinade last night on a batch of chicken wings and it was out of this world! It is a mild jerk flavor so the kids were also able to enjoy. Here’s my recipe if you want to try:

Smokin’ Jerk Chicken Wings
Chicken Wings (about 3 lbs)
3 TBSP Jammin’ Jerk Marinade
1 TBSP Olive oil
Smokin’ Jerk BBQ Saucinade (I used about
1/4 of bottle but depends on how saucy you like your wings)

1. Marinade chicken wings in marinade sauce for at least 1 hour (I rubbed marinade into chicken wings but you can shake in a bag to coat)
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
3. Grease cookie sheet with olive oil
4. Arrange wings on cookie sheet
5. Cook wings in preheated oven for 1 hour or until crisp and cooked through
6. Toss in Smokin’ Jerk BBQ Saucinade and serve
Enjoy!

New Vendor: Crave Pie Studio

I am very happy to welcome Briana Carson of Crave Pie Studio in Duluth to our family of growers and vendors!

Their artisan bakers skillfully craft each pie with fresh seasonal ingredients and our signature all butter pastry.

Crave Pie will offer a changing variety of 5" mini pies on the market weekly.

All of their pies that are listed on the market contain ingredients that are non-GMO, organically grown, or certified organic.

I’ve tried their pies and they are absolutely delicious! And I’m glad they are small so I don’t feel guilty… sometimes it’s the small pleasures that bring the most joy!!

Carrell Farms

Starting this week Carrell Farms will be back on the market! They took their items off temporarily to figure out the logistics of getting their items to us and other markets without taking too much time away from the farm.

The solution we worked out is this: allow members to order each week but Carrell Farms will deliver to our market once per month ( the 2nd week of each month). So for November that will be the 8th. Buffalo Gal items can be shipped directly to your home address and/or we will have table sales items available at pick up.
