Champaign, OH:  Just A Word

Just a word from your market manager…and a HUGE thank you, and dose of LOVE

This market soared to new heights, this time, and it’s all because of your love!! We saw new customers, we saw the return of old customers, and we saw the always loyal weekly customers!!

The past few months have watched this market just sort of float along…not really a whole lot of sales, not a whole lot of interest.

I began to research, and think, and wonder if we were about to be a thing of the past.

I know that when we began work on this market, almost 6 years ago, we were SO cutting edge, the only game on the scene, like this, the hippest kids on the block.

Over the years, we have seen big box stores add tons of organic, tons of what they term local, and while they have gotten really good at stocking real local, there is still a whole lot of local out there, that comes from way the heck away local.

We have seen the onset of groceries who now offer curbside services. We have seen the explosion of home deliveries of food, CSA boxes, and we have seen a physical farmers market pop up in every city, in every state, on just about every corner. We get it…we are not even the only online farmers market in Ohio, these days.

We know that you are offered choices, we know that we are elated that you still put your trust in us, we know that you work hard for your money, and just about everything out there, is begging for you to spend that money, elsewhere.

We even get that this market is even as easy as driving up to a curb, and getting your products delivered. We get that we cannot ship to you, or deliver to your doorstep.

BUT…what we do have to offer is a whole lot of local hear and soul. Vendors, managers, the staff of the YMCA who care about you, love you, and want to always be able to give you the very best.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for giving life back to this market!!

You are amazing, and we are here for you, always…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Miami County Locally Grown:  We are Open for Orders!

We are glad to be back after our Thanksgiving Break! And our vendor spotlight this week is on Karen Purke, of McGuffey Herb and Spice Co!

An artist by trade and a familiar face around town, Karen began to craft blends of herbal teas, dips, and spreads five years ago, when the sluggish economy resulted in a decrease of patrons for her art classes.

When she began to look for something additional to do, her first thought was, “All people have to eat”… that led to using her favorite herbs to play around with concepts and recipes – with some, such as Berry Good Tea, she hit the mark on the first try. And others just made sense… she wanted something that tasted like an after-dinner mint, and voila – enter her Chocolate Mint Tea!

As we talked about her growing business, Karen smiled slyly and showed me her ingenious storage area – what was once a massive and useless VCR storage cupboard is now home to her impeccably labeled and organized herbs and blends!

Along with her customers, I appreciate Karen’s dedication to using only organic ingredients. I listened to Karen describe how her daughter became horribly sick 6 years ago, and improved remarkably, but only after the doctor put her on an all-organic diet. Being able to see that kind of impact firsthand makes her that much more committed to providing quality, healthful products.

The descriptions on her products are so interesting – Being a mother of four, when I read her info on “Sleepy Town Tea”, I could just picture a mother sending her children off to bed with that analogy. And I love that historic sources inspire many of her blends, such as her Liberty Tea.

But her Normandy mix is my personal favorite – very unique – I’m smiling just thinking how fast my five year old can polish off an entire cucumber with it’s help!

I came away with such a respect for both her creativity and just how devoted she is to quality. There is a solid reason behind everything she does, and she incorporates that healthy dedication into each of her yummy products. What can I say? I love these vendors!!
