Suwanee Whole Life Co-op:  Market News- Suwanee

Market News

Pick Up Issue (Please READ)- Please be careful when taking your egg order. The past 2 weeks I’ve been short a dozen eggs at the end of the day. I count them as soon as I get home from picking them up on Tuesday mornings so I know I have enough to cover the orders. When you take more than you ordered it means that someone doesn’t get eggs and it comes out of my pocket. Please look carefully at the list on top of the cooler.

I was able to pick up our salmon order from Heidi earlier than expected and if you placed a pre-order it will be available for pick up this Tuesday (11/6). I did purchase some extra whole filets and portions to make our minimum and they will be listed on the market website until they are sold.

The market is now open for ordering!

Upcoming Bulk Order Schedule

  • Nov 9th – 11th: Wilderness Family Naturals ( I will include Unrefined Sea Salt in this order)
  • Nov 16th – 18th: Carrboro Coffee Roasters
  • Nov 30th – Dec 2nd: Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese

Thank you for your continued support!

Local Farms First:  The Market is Open! Celeriac Puree!

Greetings local food lovers!

The Market is Open! Great things don’t always come in beautiful packages. Take celeriac, for example!

It’s a root vegetable jam-packed with phosphorous, Vitamin K and antioxidants and it’s on the market this week from Rain Crow Farm.

Make it into an elegant side as a puree.

Add in a potato. Or try adding in some apples for sweetness!

Does the word ‘Organic’ on something, mean that everything in the product is actually organically grown? – NO !

“In the US for example, products with only 95% organic ingredients can use the word “organic”, and can display the official USDA organic seal. However a third category exists that contains only a minimum of 70% organic ingredients. Food can be labelled “made with organic ingredients”, which can mislead many consumers. There are also a wide range of elements and regulations that apply to the definition of ‘Organic’ throughout the world."

Thoughts on Food
from Sustain Ontario
“It can be easy to forget how important butchers are in local food systems, but
the truth is that small farmers really need local processors in order to get
their healthy, ethically-grown meat to the people who want to eat it! Demand
for organic and/or local meat is on the rise, especially in the wake of the
disturbing news of beef recalls and food safety issues in some of the large-
scale meat processing plants in the country. Unfortunately, the infrastructure
that farmers need to keep producing local meat is disappearing…”
