Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

It looks like we have been granted a reprieve from the oppressive humidity for this week. Kentucky sure keeps me guessing as to what the weather will do from week to week and sometimes day to day.
We are still trying to fence this week, but without much rain we continue to struggle to get those posts in the ground. We are almost complete with one field and still need to tackle the next big field. I am really looking forward to the day when I can just open gates and move sheep from one paddock to the next.
I look forward to seeing everyone this Friday,
Angela

Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  Market reminder.

Remember the market closes at 8:00 tonight. I have my fork primed to dig into the Butter Pecan Cake from Two Daughters Bakery, we just added raw, unpastuerized almonds from Queen on the Valley in California. Not locally grown but clean, raw and good for us. The vegetable list is abundant.
The butter is here and more cheese is coming this week.

Have a great week and we will see you Wedensday.
Blessings,
Mary Beth

CSA Farmers Market:  Organic Certification Visiting Day

Each year the inspector for our organic certification visits the farm; each inspector is rather unique as to how long they stay and how much they look at. Some have been at the farm for eight or more hours others only for two hours.
The inspectors look at everything, ask a lot of questions and sometimes even look at all our financial records to be sure we are .
This year our inspector was David Demler, he was quite a character and since he knows and has inspected many farms in the area it made the day rather pleasant. He was somewhat of a comedian which was a breath of fresh air since in the past some had dry serious personalities. All the inspectors all trained and they inspect farms for many different certifying agencies, they make no judgments and just report their findings to the certifying agency. The actual application for organic certification is about 15-20 pages, not including the attachments they require. One of the big things they push is record keeping, so each day Dale has to write everything down each day.
Becoming Certified Organic can be a grueling process also keeping up with the changes is also grueling. The certifying agency is usually only a call away, so if we have any questions they are always willing to help us.

Until Next Time

Martin's Farmstand:  July 28

The online market is open for orders. The sunflowers are beautiful this morning. They would look good on a table along with a well-cooked meal. These comfortable, cooler rainy days are allowing the gardens to florish. The spinach, cilantro and such type of things are doing especially well. The sweet corn is taking a good long time to get ready. It is not ready for today but I should be starting to pick it sometime mid week. All the plantings of corn look good so there should be a steady supply for a long time. The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof… One of the best things is to just enjoy God’s goodness. Daniel
