Market News

Hello!

We are back on every week, folks! Spring crops are really coming in and we are really excited to be able to offer them to you on a weekly basis now and through the summer!
Thank you for all your support through the “slower” season – although it really didn’t feel like it this year! We farmers are grateful for a little bit of down time to rejuvenate and prepare for the season ahead!

We have lots of great stuff for you this week! Tis the season for lettuce! And although it still seems early, we expect strawberries really coming in next week!

This week we have fresh dug tuberose bulbs from Tally’s field! Get a bag and put them in a sunny spot either in a pot or in the ground, and you are guaranteed a beautiful and extremely wonderful smelling flower in your garden this year!

Next week we will have a full offering of organically grown herb plants for you – basil varieties, rosemary, oregano and thyme!

Thank you so much for all your support!

See you Wednesday!
John and Tallahassee

Coming Events

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Duette, FL:  Fried Green Tomatoes

Happy Easter everyone! This week we feature green tomatoes. They are excellent fries. Here is a recipe.

“You can also fry up red tomatoes with this recipe but make sure they are not over ripe or they will be mushy. Serve these tomatoes outside with a glass of iced tea one summer night and enjoy the sunset with someone you love.”

Ingredients
2 large green tomatoes
1 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Directions
1Slice tomatoes 1/2 inch thick. Discard the ends.
2Whisk eggs and milk together in a medium-size bowl. Scoop flour onto a plate. Mix cornmeal, bread crumbs and salt and pepper on another plate. Dip tomatoes into flour to coat. Then dip the tomatoes into milk and egg mixture. Dredge in breadcrumbs to completely coat.
3In a large skillet, pour vegetable oil (enough so that there is 1/2 inch of oil in the pan) and heat over a medium heat. Place tomatoes into the frying pan in batches of 4 or 5, depending on the size of your skillet. Do not crowd the tomatoes, they should not touch each other. When the tomatoes are browned, flip and fry them on the other side. Drain them on paper towels.

Thank you.
David and Betty

Market News

Beautiful morning! Even though it is raining at our farm this morning, we welcome it!

Huge announcement:

We have MOVED to a wonderful new location. Quinn’s Mercantile at 301 N. Spring Street, just off the square in Murfreesboro. Most days you will find us set up on the porch for easy curbside pickup! If the weather is poor, our host Tracy Toy has offered space in her classroom area! Be sure to stop in to the store at pickup (or any other time) to find some wonderful gifts, home décor, jewelry and so much more! The store and staff are just precious!

We appreciate L & L Contractors, they were another wonderful host who supports local! We will miss them and hope everyone continues to support them when needing a contractor! Their work is outstanding and the staff is friendly, inviting and incredibly helpful!

Peyton and Andie Owen daughters of market customers, will return THIS Wednesday with their annual vegetable plant sale! We love hosting these young farmers in this endeavor because these girls take pride in their plants and offer us some incredible stock for our organic gardens! Even if you don’t place an order this week, you are welcome to come to the porch and visit, shop the store and purchase plants from Peyton and Andie!
