Dawson Local Harvest:  FARM TOUR at Leilani's and Tons of Produce!

Dawson Local Harvest for June 16th

FARM TOUR at Leilani’s This Saturday!

Tomatoes and Tons of Produce!

HI EVERYBODY

See how a small Certified Natural Farm works, how we grow, fertilize, control pests, pick and process great-tasting Produce all completely natural, local, and sustainable. Leilani’s FARM TOUR is an unguided tour, but Leilani, Casey (our farm manager) and others will be here to give quick presentations and answer all your questions on every aspect of how we do things. Wander and visit the Greenhouse, 3 coldframes, raised beds and boxes, the field and the berry patches. Healthy (and tasty) refreshments will be served. Hear ideas you can use in your own garden, learn how “natural and organic” fit into the scheme of things, or just let your kids burn off a lot of energy (it’s educational for them too, and they’ll never suspect it!).

It all starts at 10 am, there’s no admission but RSVP to leilani1959@windstream.net appreciated.

If you love a great diversity of Vegetables you have to love this time of year! LEILANI’S Tomatoes are coming in, there’s “warm-weather” Cucumbers and Squash but also lots of “cool-weather” veggies like Kale, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Collards, baby Carrots, baby Leeks, and the last of this season’s Lettuce, and maybe one or two others will sneak in, who knows? It’s a rare opportunity at so much variety, so don’t miss out! Order Now to ensure you get what you want!

We’d like to welcome a new vendor to The Market, SHADY ACRES FARM. They should be an excellent fit as they’ll grow some different Vegetables and Fruit and have Eggs and some other Products that will give you even more choices from The Market!

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.

Have a happy and healthy week!

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Time to Order Fresh Local Farm Products!

Good morning!

The market is open as usual, and will remain open for your orders till Tuesday at 10 pm. Please be sure to read the section of the page entitled “Important Ordering and Pickup Information.”

The farmers and managers would really appreciate your efforts to help spread the word about our fantastic market. What a great local resource for fresh, local farm products. Please pick up a few business cards to hand out to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Advertising is very expensive, and we want to use our slim market funds in a responsible manner.

Farm News of the Week

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has lots and lots of herbs available! We have both plants in gallon pots, and fresh-cut harvested herbs for those who may not have a good garden place for the plants. You can order a large amount of fresh-cut herbs to liven up your summer cooking… or a giant amount to dehydrate and save for winter. You can even order a beautiful large hanging herb garden which would be a very special gift.

Perennials blooming now include: balloon flower, daylilies, coneflowers (in limited supply), Dianthus and Gaura continuing from early spring, coral bells, salvia, sedums, Stokes asters, Tradescantia, and Yarrows. The Shasta daisies are about to begin blooming any minute now. Of course the plants which have gone out of bloom are also still available for purchase, but you should always consider the time of bloom when purchasing perennial plants.

All the various types of ferns look great too, and will do well in the shady garden next to their more colorful friends. I have added a couple of new flowering hanging baskets, and also brought back some old favorites.

(Clockwise from upper left) Large Red Daylily, Stokes Aster, Fresh-Cut English Thyme, and Petunia Hanging Basket.

From Sow’s Ear Piggery:
New cut available! Fresh pork side aka belly. Make your own bacon or use in a gourmet dinner. We also have our usual outdoor choices of ribs, chops, and shoulder, as well as ground pork and country sausage. All pork is from free-range non-GMO, non-soy, non-corn pigs.

(Clockwise from upper left): Fresh Pork Side, Pork Chops, Fresh Breakfast Sausage, and Pork Shoulder.

Frontier Family Farm has added blueberries and baby Bok Choi.

Solace Farm has two kinds of garlic now available, with more to come. And Amy also has lots of radishes.

From Botanical Harmony:
Wild harvested flowers and herbs are at a beautiful abundance so far this year! Wild roses like we haven’t seen in a long time and so much Elder!

Right now we have fresh batches of our facial toners, clay masques and a NEW spray deodorant with herbal infused Witch Hazel and deodorizing magnesium! It is wonderful for strappy clothes!

Our organic sugar scrubs are ON SALE! They are perfect for bath, shower, shaving, and facial care! Organic sugar crystals and organic sunflower oil, just choose from our available scents.

We have many new products coming along with some new packaging for our bath salts that we are super excited about!

(Clockwise from upper left) Facial Toner, Clay Masque, Spray Deodorant, and Organic Sugar Scrub.

Frontier Family Farm has BLUEBERRIES! YES! Also available is baby bok choi and White Kohlrabi.

The Krafty Kubpoard sends this note:

Farrar Farm has 8 ounce burger patties ready for your backyard feast!

Sweet Pea has these interesting pods called Rat Tail Radishes and brought a few last week to sample. Amazing bean-like pods! A delicacy in India, this radish does not produce an edible root, but a delicious, bean-like seed pod. This radish was introduced in 1866 at the International Horticultural Exposition in London.
A touch of spice and very tasty!

See ya on the porch!
