Hello, I hope this finds you all doing well. The market is open and ready for orders. This is you week to order from Carrell Farms. They have a great meat selection, alpaca sausages, lamb chops, water buffalo and much more.
We will see you on Friday between 5-7 at Copy Central on Parker road.

Old99Farm Market:  old 99 farm, week of June 11 2017

Beef and pork will be in the freezers this week; raised here, fed organically, well-treated. They had a good life and I a grateful for their presence.

Lots of eggs, please consider that you could buy eggs here.

Greens: chard, spinach, cabbage, onions, rhubarb, asparagus.

I’m requesting help to come put the hay in the barn today monday. This job needs a couple of people in the barn and a couple on the ground outside. We have fun while we’re at it. If you can help out, please come around 11 for a couple hours or later if that works.

Healthy eating

Market News

The town has slowed to a crawl, and it seems like my Facebook feed is a non-stop slideshow of photos of people on vacation. I took a few days myself, getting a personal guided tour of one of Georgia’s more wild barrier islands. Saint Catherines Island has a long relationship with the unusual, from the location of what is thought to be the first Christian church in the United States, to being the private playground of a candy baron, to today’s distinction of being the home to the only population of free-ranging lemurs outside of Madagascar. I didn’t even know this place existed a year ago, and it was amazing to see in person. If you’re like me and extremely curious about the island, here’s a series of weekly writings about it, written by one of the current residents.

I’m back now, working, tending my garden, and enjoying everything going just a little bit slower than it had been. Got the last of the seedlings that had been languishing on my picnic table into the ground yesterday, just in time for today’s rain to really perk them back up. I’ve still got about 40 square feet to clear and plant, with beans and squash and okra, but so far my first year with this new garden has been an enjoyable one.

If you’re still in town, I look forward to seeing you on Thursday! Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

We’ve got so much great lettuce this week – whip up a batch of this salad dressing and you are good to go! And it keeps for up to 10 days in your fridge!

INGREDIENTS

3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Kosher salt
Pepper
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

In a pint-size jar, combine the vinegar, garlic, mustard, 3/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Cover and shake to dissolve the salt. Add the olive oil and shake to blend. Taste for seasoning…

Market News

Hello!

We’ve got lots of good stuff this week! All the best of the shifting season’s produce for you. Lots of lettuce available this week and just so you know it won’t be around much longer! As the warmer temperatures set in the lettuce quickly gets stressed and is no longer a good crop – so enjoy it while you can!

We’ve got some of the season’s first green beans and cucumbers, and looking ahead, we have tomatoes coming in soon, as well as locally sourced, organically grown blueberries and blackberries.

The Bloomy Rind is off this week but will return next week!

And please remember to bring us your bags when you pick up your order!

We will continue to have The Peach Truck set up next to us – although they say their season will be shorter this year. The peaches so far have been excellent!

Bear Creek Farm has a new item up – all beef cheddar /jalapeno hot dogs! These are sure to be a summer time, grill out staple!

Thank you so much for all your support!

See you Wednesday!

Dawson Local Harvest:  Glorious Tomatoes and Cultural Traditions

Dawson Local Harvest for June 9th

Glorious Tomatoes and Cultural Traditions

HI EVERYBODY!

It’s June now, and June at LEILANI’S is Tomato season! Impossible, you say? Not if you start seeds in your greenhouse in February. Every year LEILANI’S has Tomatoes a month before everyone else, So, Glorious natural locally-grown vine-ripened Tomatoes are yours just for the ordering!

AND THERE’S MORE! Cucumbers, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Kales and Lettuces, and Baby Leeks join a full roster of other Vegetables on The Market this week. If you are a Vegetable Lover (and you must be if you’re on this site) it’s not often we get to see such abundant diversity. Take advantage of this opportunity, get some great vittles, and dig in!

Speaking of great vittles we’d like to welcome a new Vendor this week. CULTURAL TRADITIONS offers hard-to-find varieties of authentic Russian and European Favorites. Tanya uses centuries-old fermentation recipes that are probiotically active, so they’re not only good, they’re good for you! CT has several flavors of Jun (a fermented green tea and honey beverage with ingredients like ginger, carrots, beets, pineapple, etc.), a variety of different Sauerkrauts (how about Horseradish Beet?), and other intriguing products. They are a great (and healthy) way to add some new tastes to your diet. Check them out in the Fermented/Probiotic Products section of The Market listings.

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.
