The Wednesday Market:  WEdnesday Market closed Jan 17, 2017 due to impending inclement weather

Hi All WEdnesday Market Supporters!

We are sorry but we have decided to close the Wednesday Market this week [Jan 17] due to the impending bad weather. All the schools in our area Spalding, Butts, Pike, Lamar, and Henry [so far] are officially closed tomorrow. We feel that we can not risk the safety of our customers or our vendors. In the South we are just not equipped to deal with ice and snow. Broken bones and fender benders are no fun. So please be safe tomorrow, and the rest of the week, by staying in and staying warm. We hope you have no emergencies to call you out into this cold. We look forward to serving you again next week when things return to normal. It has been a crazy winter so far hasn’t it. Stay tuned.

Thanks for supporting local agriculture through the Wednesday Market!

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This week on The Cumming Harvest

This Week

Chicken is back! And the newsletter is early!

There have been a few requests for the weekly email to be sent out early in order to give you time to read about and look at the specials before the market opens. So although the market still opens at 10AM every WEDNESDAY, you will begin to receive the newsletter no later than 8AM Wednesday morning.

Please welcome our newest farmer to the market, Back in Time Farm. I’m excited to announce that they will be selling their pastured poultry on the market every other week, starting this week. Check out their current listings— they have plenty of small whole birds, Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage, Boneless Skinless Chicken breasts, Breakfast Sausage, and more. Stock your freezer; they will sell out quickly!

Doug’s Wild Salmon re-stocked the cooler with more 5 lb portions, the ever-popular salmon burger and LOX.

If, like me, you have seen Cultured Tradition’s listing for Jun and wondered what it is, let me tell you: it is similar to Kombucha, but instead of being made with black tea and sugar, Jun is made using green tea and honey, both of which are well known for their health benefits. Cultured Tradition’s Jun is brewed from organic loose leaf green tea and purified water, and raw local Georgia honey.

If you enjoyed the Amish cheese from Meadow Valley farm and would like to order more, please let me know what varieties you would like on Saturday or by sending an email to thecummingharvest@gmail.com. This time around I’d like to order smaller cuts, less than 1 lb, unless you specify otherwise.

One final note: I’m sure that you have noticed the drop in the availability of vegetables on the market. While the prolonged cold weather is helpful in reducing populations of unwanted pests, it also takes a toll on the veggies, even those grown in hoop houses, and our farmers may take a few weeks off during the coldest part of January and February. This week Heirloom Gardens and Leilani’s have a few vegetables listed, including salad mix, spinach, kale and carrots.

Champaign, OH:  Angel Of The Morning

Maybe the sun’s light will be dim
And it won’t matter anyhow…
(Juice Newton-Angel Of The Morning)
(Singing the Chrissie Hynde version)

The sun seems like it WILL be a bit dim, this morning, and it is COLD, and so snowy…but don’t let that get your morning down. Put on some tunes, grab a warm beverage, and get to ordering!!

Think how nice it will be to have your grocery shopping, all completed, from the comfort of wherever you are…

You have until tomorrow morning, at 8am!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
