Conyers Locally Grown:  Happy Thanksgiving

I hope this finds you all doing well. This is just a reminder we will be closed this week to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family. We wish you all the best and hope you have a happy holiday as well. Thank you,
Brady

Athens Locally Grown:  ALG Reminder: We are closed this week!

Hi there! This is just a reminder that Athens Locally Grown will be closed this week to allow us all to celebrate Thanksgiving. If you need a last minute item from our local farmers, Heirloom Cafe on Chase Street will be hosting a mini version of the Athens Farmers Market from 11-2 on Wednesday.

I am very thankful for all the food options available to us provided by members of our community who care about the health of both the people eating the food they provide and the land from which it came from. And I find it very fitting that I get to express these thanks via a meal made from that very same food.

Thanks also to you, and happy Thanksgiving! We’ll see you in two weeks.

Recipes

Radicchio Salad with Romaine Lettuce and Cranberry Orange Dressing

A very cool Thanksgiving salad – easy to make with an interesting sweet and sour flavor. You can add some cooked grains to make it a heartier side dish.

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 250°F. Roast the walnuts on a baking sheet for 15 to 20 minutes, until they turn lightly brown. Remove and break into small bits.

2. To make the dressing, combine the orange juice, cranberries, and dates in a blender, and blend until smooth.

3. Pour the dressing into a shallow pan and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, until the liquid thickens a bit and reduces by about a third. Add the cayenne, and season with salt to taste. Set aside to cool.

4. In a large bowl, combine the romaine, radicchio, pomegranate seeds, and parsley. Toss with some of the dressing (taste first; you may not want to use all of it).

5. Sprinkle with walnuts right before serving.

Market News

Hello!

THIS WEEK we will be delivering on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 25th, same time (4 – 6pm), same place (Trinity Church).

Have a local Thanksgiving! We’ve got everything you’ll need!

We have a wonderful selection of fresh veggies this week. Lots of salad options, from fresh, light lettuces to hearty chicories that enjoy some heavier dressings and can be made up ahead of time. Also, a nice selection of winter squashes, sweet potatoes of course, and beets and carrots that go well with everything! And don’t forget those greens for the day after.

There are lots of meat options up for when you are tired of turkey. If you still want a small bit of turkey but not a whole bird, Wedge Oak had some half-turkeys still available. Bear Creek has a large selection of pork products up.

You still have time to order Dozen Bakery’s Thanksgiving pies or a cheese plate from The Bloomy Rind. Both will be delivered on Tuesday November 25th.

The Bloomy Rind also has other cheese, jams, and caramel sauce listed, which make great hostess gifts!

Twin Forks Farm bread is off this week, but will return next week.

This is a time of reflection upon the bounty this beautiful Earth bestows upon us, and we are so thankful for all the good food and people growing good food that this land offers us. We are also thankful for you all, our generous community of customers. We really appreciate your commitment to and enthusiasm for local food and the local farmers who do the work. It is truly a cooperative effort, as we couldn’t make it happen without your support.

May you have a wonderful week, surrounded by friends and family, with much laughter, joy, and relaxation!

Thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

John and Tallahassee

Plattsburgh Online Ordering:  Online ordering - for the aftermath

Great market yesterday so I know most folks are well stocked. Today you have to think beyond Thursday and leftovers to what you will be wanting/needing not this week, but next week. Open for orders until 9 pm Tuesday.

Asgaard is taking a holiday this week so no products available from them. They will be back for next week. (Hmmmm, maybe not online until Monday though.)

Have a great and thankful Thanksgiving.

Heirloom Living Market Lilburn:  Extension of Market hours

CLG:  No market this Friday. Happy thanksgiving.

We will not be having a market this week since Thanksgiving is Thursday. Have a great week! We will open for orders next Sunday at 6pm.

Heirloom Living Market Hamilton Mill:  Today at 6:00pm is ordering deadline!

Heirloom Living Markets will close for ordering tonight at 6:00pm!

Market Pickup is Tuesday 2:30 – 4:30pm only!

Hamilton Mill Community Center
1669 Hamilton Mill Parkway
Dacula, GA 30019

My Daily Bread will have fresh baked breads and other organic baked goods available this week but will be taking a well deserved vacation the following week.

Feel free to stock up this week so you won’t miss having your My Daily Bread items! All of their items freeze well, taste fresh upon thawing and will keep in the freezer for 4-6 weeks if double wrapped!

Marie of Bakery on Brooks does not have items listed on the Markets this week. She will return next week! Marie has created Parker House Rolls that are gluten free and made with organic ingredients. Be sure and order some next week! I love all of her products, but these rolls are now at the top of my list of favorites!

Dabrielle of My Daily Bread has tasty treats that would enhance any Thanksgiving Feast. Cinnamon Rolls or Pumpkin Spice Bread or Muffins paired with a Sausage and Veggie Fritatta with eggs from Golden Farms or Rocky Acres Farm and Sausage from B&G or Heritage Farm with Peppers, Onions, Spinach from The Veggie Patch sounds like a great Breakfast to start the day!

Or start your day with a Smoothie made with tender, nutritious microgreens from George and Krista of Cedar Seeder. They also offer Bakery Bars that are oh-so-good!

Dabrielle of My Daily Bread has started on her Christmas baking and will have Sweet Bread Platters available this week – great to have on hand for nibbling later in the day with leftovers or a wonderful Hostess Gift. Her Gingerbread Boys are sure to bring a smile to the children and adults alike, served with a glass of cold fresh milk from Cedar Rock Dairy or Little Tot’s Estate!

Need appetizers? Hummus or Pestos offered by Jennifer of Jennifer’s Pesto would be a good choice or check out the Pepper Cheese Log from My Daily Bread.

Need Veggies? We have Kale, Mustard Greens, Collard Greens or Nappa Cabbage that can be sauteed for a Southern side dish for the big day. I use a mixture of Nappa Cabbage and Kale with little bits of B&G’s Spicy Sausage and add some Onion and Garlic! Good eating! You could order a Produce Box from Doug’s Garden or from The Veggie Patch for an assortment! Sounds wonderful! I have been enjoying the tasty Tomatoes from Peacefield Farm and am getting both Red and Green this week. Great tasting Tomatoes at Thanksgiving? Who knew?

The ‘Star of the Show’ for most folks will be a Turkey! Unfortunately, we did not have access to pre-order free-range, organic birds this year, so I trust you found your own source. I brine my turkey and it is always awesome!

There is a slim possibility that Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm will have few Turkeys that people who had pre-ordered did not claim for one reason or another…. I will not know for sure until Monday evening. Cost per pound is $7.90 but again, I will not know IF there will be any available, the number available or the size until Monday evening after Greg has delivered what was pre-ordered. You can call me at 404-432-4337 if you want to be on the list to get a Turkey if there are any available. If you are on the list, I will call you Monday night to let you know that outcome!

If you haven’t found Turkey or you prefer another meat for your Feast, check out the Beef, Pork or Chicken offered by Lynda Brady of B&G Farms, or Chicken, Beef, Lamb or Pork products offered by Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm or the Water Buffalo offered by Carrell Farms

The Yeast Rolls from My Daily Bread are fabulous! Hmmm, Honey from Dances with Bees b> would taste mighty fine on those Yeast Rolls! My Daily Bread also offers a variety of Jam, Jellies and Preserves that are fabulous.

Oh, and don’t forget the Pumpkin! Dabrielle made some delicious roasted and pureed Organic Pumpkin. Truly, Pumpkin Pie is great; however, Pumpkin Pie made from fresh Pumpkin is awesome! Top that pie with whipped cream made from the thick rich cream on top of the great raw milk from Cedar Rock Dairy! Order an extra 1/2 gallon, skim off the cream and make butter or whipped cream and use the remaining milk/butter milk for baking. Freeze the extra!

Someone posted a little “Thanksgiving Humor” on Facebook and it is too cute NOT to share! I laughed out loud! Singing Turkey

A few other items to consider, especially if you are going to be a guest this Thanksgiving. Kathy Barnes of So-Koi creates Retro Aprons in several different patterns, which would make an awesome Hostess Gift. Monique Huenergardt of Mo’s Tats and Stitches handcrafts beautiful Heirloom quality snowflake ornaments, home decorations, ear rings and has them on the Market. Tammy Soseby of Peacefield Farm has hand-crafted some beautiful scarves! Three talented ladies, dedicated to offering us handmade-with-love treasures! Buying from local Artisans, whom you have the opportunity to meet and get to know, I think is special! Buying local also helps grow the economy.

And if the Hostess has a pet – remember to check out Low Low Knows Bones for Organic yummy Pet Treats to appease the hungry beasts! (Plus you will make lots of Brownie Points! Pet owners have a special place in their hearts for their animals and love when others recognize this bond!) The Black Lab gobbles up the Pumpkin flavor!

Sarah, Lauren, Kathy (The Market Coordinators) and I recognize that we are truly blessed to have the wonderful group of Farmers, Producers and Artisans who are passionate about bringing us “the best of the best”! We are grateful for their dedication.

Please know that we are grateful to you, our Members, for your unfailing support of our efforts to make the Market a community resource for nutrient-dense, clean fresh and local food! Your encouragement, suggestions, recommendations to others and your friendship have blessed my life and I am appreciative.

personal reflections

I have had time these last few days to reflect on memories of past Thanksgivings shared with family and friends. Whether I was cooking in my own kitchen, helping in another or a guest in someone’s home, the happiness that I have felt for the love that is shared on this special holiday still fills my heart with joy!

It isn’t about a “perfect meal” – it can be the simplest of fare or a huge feast. It isn’t about pulling out the silver and the best china or the lace tablecloth. It isn’t about show. It is about gratitude! Expressing our heartfelt thanks to another warms their heart and ours.

I give thanks to God for my many blessings and even for the “I’m-not-so-sure-this-is-a-blessing” situations and especially the hardships, losses, issues that I face that are less than pleasant, the “I-don’t-see-this-as-a-blessing” conditions. I am truly grateful for all of the joys and sorrows that became my life. They are part of me and have shaped the person that I am today. I am grateful to Him that I awaken each day to see the beautiful sunrise; grateful at the end of the day as the sky is painted at sunset and grateful for all of the moments in between. He blesses me each and every moment – through His hand and the lives of each person I encounter and I am humbled and grateful to be touched.

Please, take a moment and reflect on the many blessings you have in your life. Live ‘in the moment’ and become ‘aware’! Take the time to say: “Thank you!” I promise, it will bring joy to your heart!

Black Lab Update Finally … after 3 days of laying the underground fence, attaching to the existing ‘real fence’, testing, finding a short, replacing wire, retesting and meeting with success, the Black Lab is securely ‘contained’ in the backyard. After escaping 2 weeks ago and MIA for 6 hours, my angst and worry forced me to spend the considerable time and effort to ensure his safety. I obviously could not rely on his ‘trustworthiness’ (or lack thereof) to NOT dig under and out of the fence! I now have peace of mind when I let him outside! Such a blessing! I just have to figure out how to keep the dogs from the surrounding properties from digging into the yard!

I wish you and yours a truly wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing in the Heirloom Living Market Family!

Now, hop on over to your Market and get that shopping done! Market closes tonight at 6:00pm! We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday! Order now since you are just a click away!
