The Market Is Open!

THIS Thursday, John Erdmann from Erdmann Farms and Don McClain from "Alfresco Pasta* will be at market pickup!! Don said to be sure to tell you he will have HOT samples of some of his products. Tracey & Ashleigh from Botanical Harmony Farm will also have a setup of their products. Please share this with anyone who may want to come and see what the market is about, ask the producers questions and of course MEET YOUR FARMERS!

Jim and Julie from Rocky Glade Farm share this news: this week we will have new or back on the market: broccoli, collard greens, purple daikon radish, easter egg radish, watermelon radish, bok choi and red potatoes!

Jenny with Seeds of Success has incredible seasonings and snack mixes!

Bloomin’ Shrooms continues to provide us with some BEAUTIFUL shiitake mushrooms.

Lynchburg Beef and Fountain Springs have great selection of healthy meats.

Linda at Dogwood Valley says this: After more rain than I care to think about, hopefully we will see some sunshine later today! I’m excited! It’s time to start cleaning out the fall garden and planting perennials and bulbs for next spring’s bloom! Fall is actually the best time of year to plant perennials, as well as a great time to get a jump on your spring gardening. Fall-planted perennials establish a strong root system over winter, allowing for spectacular spring blooming. It’s definitely time to take advantage of Dogwood Valley Greenhouse‘s “Fall Special” on perennial and herb plants and ferns: Buy 3, get one of equal or lesser value free. Please make a note on your order form of which plant you would like for free (name 3 choices).

Important Market Information

Customers have from Saturday 5pm until Tuesday at 9pm to place orders. The market will be closed Tuesday evening.

On Thursday’s from 4:45pm – 6:00pm customers can pick up their orders at 865 Union St Shelbyville, TN 37160 (opposite Piggly Wiggly). This is where customers are to pay for their orders in check or cash.

Farm to Table Recipes

Ingredients:
Cheesy Stuffed Banana Peppers (Gluten Free)
yields about 10 (medium to large) banana peppers

1-8 oz. package cream cheese
1 cup plain greek yogurt (Chobani is my favorite!)
4-6 cloves garlic, minced (We love garlic, so we always go for 6 – you decide!)
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shredded mozzarella (or Italian blend of cheeses)
1/2 cup grated parmesan, more for sprinkling
10 medium to large banana peppers

Preheat the oven to 400ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Put on some gloves (and wear a mask if you have bad coughing fits like me). Rinse the banana peppers to remove dirt, and cut off the stems. Open up the banana pepper length wise by cutting down through the center of the pepper (only on one side – do not cut it in half!). Remove the seeds as best as you can (or else they’ll be SUPER hot). Place on a paper towel to dry slightly while you mix the stuffing.

In a medium bowl, stir the cream cheese and yogurt together until smooth. Add the minced garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper, stirring until well combined. Add the mozzarella and parmesan, stirring until evenly mixed.

Scoop the cheese mixture generously into each of the peppers, stuffing it down into the tip of the pepper, all the way to the top. Place each pepper, open side up, on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the opening with parmesan cheese.

Bake at 400ºF for 25-30 minutes, until the peppers are soft, and the cheese is browned. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Champaign, OH:  Saturday, At The Farm!!


We would like to invite the virtual market vendors and customers to join us out on our farm Saturday October 10th at 2pm for a sorghum-making demonstration and a guided tour! Our draft horse, Tony, will help us squeeze the juice out of the sorghum cane, and we’ll be cooking it down to make sweet syrup – an interesting process if you’ve never seen it in person. End of the Road Farm may be a work in progress, but we, along with our three young children, have a lot of fun and enjoy working full-time on our homestead. There will be several samples of sorghum goodies to try – we’d love to meet you if you’re able to come!

Directions – Take state route 36 West out of Urbana about 20 miles to Fletcher… you’ll go through St. Paris and Lena, and it’s the first “town” after 235.

Turn left at the first stop light, onto 589.

Turn right at the first street (no street sign) – that’s first street which becomes our driveway! Go past the yield and dead end signs, through the gate, and come all the way up to the house – we’ll show you where to park!

StPete.LocallyGrown.Net:  “Intermission” Update


St. Pete Locally Grown “Intermission” Update

Valued Customers, Volunteers, & Growers:
No one is more eager than I to re-open our online Market on November 2nd with fresh fall produce! And we WILL still carry all products from The Dancing Goat! I wanted to let you know in advance about several changes to how our Market will operate regarding schedule and fees.

  • We are cutting our Market timeframe by just two hours. We will open earlier on Monday at 3pm instead of 5pm. We will close earlier on Wednesday at 8am instead of noon. Based on past Markets, 99% of all shopping is completed by early Tuesday evening anyway.
  • We will sell Certified Organic veggies from Geraldson Community Farm. In order for us to make it work with our schedule and theirs, you will be asked to order from them no later than Monday 8pm. That will give everyone FIVE hours to decide if/what they want from Geraldson’s and place an order. Even if it’s just a partial order, you can always come back later and place additional order(s) with other Growers before the Market closes.
  • Our annual membership fee is changing from $90 annually ($7.50 per month) to $80 for the 8-month season ($10 per month). We will pro-rate memberships for fewer months, on request.
  • New customers will get to try us once (instead of twice) before they decide to pay the $80 membership fee which gets automatically added to their second order. We will adjust & prorate the fee through the end of our Market season (June 2016) depending on when the second order gets placed.
  • Delivery fees are increasing by $2. If you’ve been paying $4 then you will pay $6, and so on.

Please review our website at www.stpetelocallygrown.net with fresh eyes. We have changed a few graphics (finally) and updated it with new info. I want you to be as informed as possible whenever you share the great news of our lovely online Market with others.

We are looking for more urban growers to join our Market. Please contact me if you think you might be interested in selling an over-abundance of chemical-free veggies through our Market. If 10 farmers reserve 4 pounds of tomatoes for our Market then we have FORTY POUNDS to sell to the St. Petersburg Community. Talk about “home grown…”

The future of our Market depends on local dollars AND local volunteers. I am still looking for two volunteers needed every other week on Friday for 2 to 3 hours. Awaiting your call… 727-515-9469
