Bruce – My Daily Bread update

I spoke with Bruce on Tuesday and he’s doing great! It was so good to hear his voice! He thanked all of you for the prayers and felt them cover him. He is finally home recovering from surgery and will be back on his feet very soon. Due to several follow up appointments next week, the My Daily Bread team will be taking a break from baking and will not be on the market this week. They apologize for the short notice but will be back the following week!

Group Buy: Grass Fed Cheeses

This weekend we will be taking orders for grass-fed cheese from Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese and Jason Wiebe Dairy.

Low Temp Pasteurized and Raw Milk Cheeses will be available.

Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese and Jason Wiebe Dairy are 2 creameries I’ve worked with for a while and both have wonderful cheeses.

I’ve asked the cheese makers to put “(Raw Milk Cheese)” in the title if it is raw milk cheese aged 60 days according to FDA regulation. All other cheeses are low temp pasteurized.

Raw milk cheese that is listed on the market is safe for human consumption and is aged at least 60 days per FDA regulation.*

Prices and available sizes will be on the market website tomorrow for ordering. The pricing will include shipping and taxes/fees.

The cheese will NOT be available for pick up this Tuesday. Please allow at least 2 weeks. I will email you when it is available for pick up.

  • Cows Raised without synthetic hormones
  • Cows are grass-fed and raised on pasture
  • Old World, Handmade Cheese making Techniques
  • Cheeses made with non-homogenized low temp pasteurized or raw milk and aged at least 60 days to comply with the USDA regulations for raw milk cheese production
  • Vegetable-based rennet, to make it more acceptable to vegetarians
  • Cheeses that are not considered raw are pasteurized at the lowest legal temperature for 15 seconds

See Kenny’s and Jason’s website for more detailed information about their process: http://www.kennysfarmhousecheese.com/

Benefits of Grass-Fed Cheese

  • One of the few foods that contains a perfect balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats, a ratio ideal for your health
  • Very high in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) In fact, it contains five times more CLA than dairy from grain-fed cows! CLA, which are most abundant in grass-fed products, are among the most potent cancer fighters in all foods.
  • Considerably higher in beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E than cheese and other dairy from grain-fed sources
  • High in the healthy calcium and protein your body needs

Siloam Springs, AR:  We Need Your Input!! Please complete our survey!

In 2014, through a series of public surveys and meetings, a vision was cast for creating a combined farmers market/ amphitheater pavilion on the land downtown where the former Siloam Springs Medical Center sat, now adjacent to the new Siloam Springs Public Library.

As we consider moving forward with that vision and continue to carry out the mission of the farmers market, we would like your input as a customer.

Old99Farm Market:  Leap or Not to Leap

Ever heard of “This Changes Everything: the movie” or the LEAP Manifesto? Here’s the guy, engagingly witty and witted, who had much to do with making them happen (along with his wife Naomi Klein in case of the book and about 60 other social activists, leaders and visionaries in the case of the LEAP document, “A call for a Canada based on caring for the earth and for one another”.

Avi Lewis (49), spars with Steve Paikin on The Agenda about the overwhelming necessity to shift off fossil fuel rollercoaster, the impetus from creating political space that leans against the moneyed class on the right with it’s growthism ethos, impoverished as it is. It’s a fun watch, they really seem equally matched! If Lewis is right (I think so) that we have an impoverished political imagination and incrementalism is so inadequate to the task, we need to take a LEAP, which requires being inspired. The sense of the possible, like I posted here last, active skepticism, that makes the job of our life to make the impossible, possible.

Foothills Market:  No Market This Week

We’re taking a break from the market this weekend to do something with our daughter, but we’ll be back next weekend with new items just in time for Memorial Day!

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  GLG is now OPEN!

The Market is now OPEN until Monday at noon!! Click here to order now!

Hello Everyone!!

Thank you all once again for coming out this week and supporting Gwinnett Locally Grown and our local vendors. I finally had the opportunity to meet some of you and talk a little about food (of course!), and all the good things you guys are creating with the products you pick up at the store. I am a big time foodie, I can spend hours talking about food and recipes and all that good stuff. So please feel free to bring in your recipes, ask questions and/or mingle! Don't be shy!

I was doing some research this week on duck eggs. Most importantly I was interested in finding out more about their nutritional content. As it turns out, duck eggs are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (71.4mg/egg), Iron, and B-vitamins especially pantothenic acid (B5). Our bodies need B5 to break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates from the foods we eat. Duck eggs are very good for baking, since they contain more albumin and this in turn makes the final product lighter and fluffier. Give it a try! and report back with results please!

ALSO AVAILABLE

  • Raw Cow's Milk
  • Raw Goat Milk
  • Pastured, free range chicken eggs
  • Pastured, free range duck eggs
  • Grass fed beef and Pork
  • Pastured, free range chicken
  • Local honey
