Group Buy: Wild Caught Shrimp

This weekend and next weekend, we will take orders for Ocean to Table, HACCP Certified Wild Caught Georgia Shrimp from St. Simons Island Shrimp Specialist (SISS)!

This product is available for pickup the first Tuesday in October. These shrimp are large (26 count per lb.)“heads-off” shrimp.

SISS will be offering shrimp are IQF and in frozen block. For the IQF shrimp, you can just reach into bag and grab as many as you need to use. The IQF shrimp are the creme de la creme of shrimp. They are fresh caught and “headed”, then placed into a salt brine tank for 10 min and flash frozen right on the boat to ensure freshness. These IQF shrimp are fresher than fresh, when you thaw them out, it’s like they just came out of the ocean! When you buy fresh shrimp they have already been out of the water and on ice for 24-48 hrs. Fresh shrimp will stay good on ice for up to 3-5 days. The IQF shrimp have a 6 month shelf life.

The frozen shrimp in 5lb blocks are blast frozen (to ensure freshness) and then packaged in our restaurant delivery boxes for your convenience for your freezer. Shelf life up to 2 years. If you would like to thaw out just a few at a time, open box, pull back bag and run COLD water over portion of frozen block until you can get what you need then, close up bag and box and put back in freezer.

These same shrimp sell for $12.99 per pound at our local grocers on the coast of Georgia. If you can find them in the Atlanta area they will be at least $15 per pound. Take advantage of the great price of $9.99 per lb!

I’m looking forward to shrimp scampi, boiled shrimp, grilled shrimp kabobs, shrimp and grits, shrimp jambalaya, shrimp salad, shrimp stock … OK now I’m starting to sound like Bubba from Forest Gump but you get the point!

Wild Caught Shrimp is an excellent source of Tryptophan (an essential amino acid), Vitamin B12, Healthful fats, including omega-3, saturated fat and cholesterol, Selenium, Protein, an Astaxanthin.

If you are a seafood lover you are won’t be disappointed!

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This Week at The Cumming Harvest

This Week

Indian Creek Angus We are so very saddened by the passing of Josh Barron on September 10th. Josh was the young man that delivered to us every Saturday and may have met some of you out by his truck. We’ve known the Barron family for 6 years and grown to love and respect them for their love of their animals, family farm and the closeness they have. Josh had just started working on the farm after graduating from UGA, which is when he started delivering to us. We’ll miss him and his friendly smile. Please keep the Barron family in your thoughts and prayers. Understandably, they’ll be taking a break from the market until further notice.

St. Simons Island Shrimp Specialists are new to the market. www.ShellCreekSeafood.co
They will be selling HACCP Certified Wild Caught Georgia sweet white shrimp, delivering once a month. You will be able to place orders throughout the month but pick up will usually be the first Saturday of the month. This month delivery will be on October 8th.

Heirloom Gardens is back on the market this week with carrots, arugula, kale, herbs and some beefsteak tomatoes!

Heritage Farm is still taking pre-orders for holiday turkey’s, turkey breasts and holiday hams. Order soon, while supplies last.

Miami County Locally Grown:  Introducing our newest vendor...

Becky’s Buckeye Naturals! Becky Parr’s line of bastille soaps, oil cleansers, and other body care products has something for everyone – even those with dry and sensitive skin!

While looking at going into business for herself, Becky said she just kept coming back to soap. She had simply thought sensitivity problems from ordinary soaps were just the way things went, until she began making her own soap small batches, where she had complete control of her ingredients. And if she had problems with sensitive skin, other people might also!

I watched Becky make a non-irritating bastille soap, and appreciated how conscientious she was about her ingredients, and what she needed to use to comfort and soothe typical skin problems or irritants.

Her oil cleansers intrigued me… use oil to maintain the perfect balance of oils on your skin!

The most memorable piece of advice she gave me? “When it comes to cleanup, lazy is good!” I laughed aloud, but it made sense – cleaning up hardened soap the next day was much easier than wiping up a conglomeration of liquid oils.

And who can’t appreciate a soap called Swamp Rot, particularly if you have a teenage athlete at home or a sweaty farmer for a husband?!

Even more products and information is available on her website, www.beckysbuckeyenaturals.com!

Welcome, Becky, and thank you for joining the virtual market!

Miami County Locally Grown:  We are Open for Orders until 8pm Sunday!!
