Market News

First this week, I’m sad to report that The Granary, a bakery in Watkinsville that specialized in grinding their own flour, was suddenly sold last week to new owners. The new owners have decided not to sell at our market any more, and their products have been removed from our listings. I do not know if they sell anywhere else besides their storefront, so if you’ll miss their baked goods, contact them directly for more information.

We are missing quite a few of the bins we use while packing your orders. I know a number of you take them back to your car to unload, and I’m wondering if some of them might have gone back home with you. If so, could you bring them back? We used to have about 30, and we’re down to only seven. It’s slowing us down now filling orders, and I’d rather not have the expense of buying a bunch more. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons downtown at city hall. You can catch the news on their website. The Washington-Wilkes Farmer’s Market in Washington is open every Saturday 9-12 behind the Washington Courthouse. The Oconee County farmers market is open Saturday mornings in front of the Oconee County Courthouse. The other area markets I haven’t mentioned have yet to open for the season, so far as I know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Atlanta Locally Grown:  Saturday market

Horrible news folks, while loading pigs this evening I slipped and fell. I am not certain but am pretty sure I broke my right ankle. I will head in for X-rays in the morning. I am openeing the market but not sure what I can offer this week.

Needless to say the pigs aren’t going to make a trip in this week. Hopefully we can have them delivered next week.

Thank you,
Brady

Berea Gardens:  Broccoli!!!

The broccoli is finally here, and wow, is it nice. Cool, slow growing conditions have allowed it to develop some great mineral content and wonderful sweetness.

Lots of lettuce and kale this week, too.

Market News

Hello!
We hope you are enjoying this beautiful spring! Can you believe, after all that rain, that it is once again pretty dry in the field? It is heavy duty transplant time on the farms, getting all the summer crops in the ground and the final round of spring veggies. There is lots of good stuff to come in the weeks ahead!
This week we have a nice selection of a lot of green stuff – enjoy those salads!

There are some new herb start varieties available – purple and lime basil, as well as regular and cinnamon. Also a few other kinds left as well as some Matt’s Wild Cherry Tomato plants.

If you have pre-paid for the Bouquet of the Week, please notice you have your own item to select on the Market page under flowers. You will not be charged when you do this – it will just help Tally to keep track. This is for pre-paid bouquets only. If you have not pre-paid but would like a bouquet, please select the large weekly bouquet for $14.00. Please let Tally know if you have any questions.

We are running low on bags! We have ordered more, but would appreciate any returned that you may have hiding in a closet or trunk!

Lastly, Wedge Oak Farm has some duck available this week, as a whole or half, as well as a larger selection of chicken cuts. Get some while you can!

Once again, thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

John and Tallahassee

Moving on, we’d like to welcome FIVE HENS FARMS, a grower and processor of fruit, free-range pork, poultry, eggs, herbs, and other items. This week *FIVE HENS offers pork, eggs, and fresh-picked oregano. Just go to Our Growers *page to read who they are and what they’re about.

To view the Harvest from now ’til Tuesday at 8pm just go to “The Market” page on our website, the Dawson Local Harvest.

Thank You for your interest and support. Eat Green, BE Green!
