Chilled Wilted Tatsoi Salad with Sesame-Ginger Dressing
(Makes about 2 servings, recipe adapted from Big Oven, who got it from the New York Times.)

1 head Tatsoi leaves
sesame seeds, for garnish

2 T soy sauce (I used Tamari)
1 T rice vinegar (not seasoned)
1 tsp. grated ginger root
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. Siracha (or other types of Asian hot chile sauce would work)
fresh ground black pepper to taste

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, and fill another bowl with cold water and a handful of ice cubes. Wash Tatsoi leaves (I used a salad spinner) and cut into thick strips. Dump Tatsoi into boiling water, time for exactly one minutes, then drain immediately into colander and dump into bowl with ice water. (I used used the salad spinner again for the ice water.)

While Tatsoi is cooling in ice water, mix dressing ingredients into a bowl, then drain Tatsoi well and add to dressing. Chill in the refrigerator an hour or more, stirring a few times so Tatsoi remains coated with the dressing.

To serve, use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove Tatsoi from bowl and arrange on serving plates. Toast sesame seeds for 1-2 minutes in a dry pan and sprinkle over salad. (If using a mixture, the black seeds burn more quickly than the white ones.) Serve immediately.

Check out our Facebook page, Fresh Harvest, LLC , to see pictures of the winter growing that is happening on our farms. We’ve got lots of good stuff in the hoophouses and fields right now, and more still to come. As long as the weather cooperates in a reasonable manner, we should be good for delivering through the New Year and into spring.

We hope you all had a peaceful Thanksgiving with lots of good food, family and friends. It was a beautiful day for being outside!

Jonesborough Locally Grown:  Online Ordering is open for Nov 28th Pick-up

Get in the shopping mood…lots of great products this week including decor for your house and gift baskets for your family and friends. Not to mention – of course, lots of good eats!

Reminder to customers: Pick up time on Wednesday is from 5:30 to 6pm. You can come early, but…you may have to wait for the vendors to complete their delivery. Also, we are trying very hard to make sure that all orders are complete, but it is a huge help to us if each customer takes the time to check that what is in the basket matches their invoice. Adjustments made at pick-up are so much easier than those that have to be made later.

Looking forward to seeing you Wednesday.

Our names are Meagan and Jose and we are two people with a love of good food. Seeking out and trying out new, and more importantly real, food has always been a passion of ours.

This passion, an increasing concern with the food industry, and the arrival of our daughter of course are the driving forces behind our business.

We make delicious, healthy, organic food for our baby and yours because there are enough things in the world to worry about. What we eat and specifically what we feed our children should not be one of them.

ALFN Local Food Club:  Fresh Goods

Good Morning Locavores,
The Market is open! And it’s high time you restocked your fridges with non-Thanksgiving-leftovers. How about some fresh produce, meat, and eggs instead? There’s nothing like the detoxifying powers of kale to wipe an over-fed slate clean. I do hope everyone had a splendid Thanksgiving. I for one spent it in Denver, Colorado, where everyone lives off of delicious food and beer. Lots of beer. And lots of hiking to even things out.
A tip for the traveler: visit the New Belgium brewery in Fort Collins. It’s fantastic. And eat at ANY restaurant along Pearl Street in Boulder. Don’t bother asking if the food is sourced locally, because all of it is. Look forward to seeing you this next weekend!

Stones River Market:  Time to Order Local Food

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and those that traveled had a safe trip. It is hard to believe that December starts at the end of the week.

Some items of note for this week. After a one week break, Farmer Brown has their baked goods available. There are also plenty of vegetables at this time of year from our farmers – White City Produce, Rocky Glade Farm, Flying S Farm, Ferris Family Farms, Farmer Grey, Farmer Brown and Erdmann Farm.

There are a lot of other great products available from our other vendors. Check the other categories to see what is being offered.

Thank you for your orders last week.
