Conyers Locally Grown: Available for Friday January 27
I hope this finds you all doing well.
I hope to get some work done tomorrow while its dry. Everything is knee deep in the mud today.
I saw lots of great stuff listed in the market. The winter veggies are looking great. Taylorganic has some great cabbages, brussels sprouts greens with sprouts attached, beautiful chard, kale and more.
We have a few things this week. A touch of arugula, baby collards, mustard and even some baby turnip greens. The mushrooms will be plentiful after the thunderstorms this weekend.
We are ready for volunteers to weed and such. We should be transplanting in two or three more weeks and our sow, Big Momma, should drop her litter in three weeks or so. Stop by and pick out your future half.
Remember you have at least 21 meals to plan for this week, 28+ if you include your snacks. We hope some of your selections come from our efforts.
We enjoy being your farmers.
Thank you for all your support. Please remember to have your orders placed by 8PM on Tuesday. We will see you on Friday between 5PM and 7PM at Copy Central (1264 Parker Road, Conyers) and don’t forget to share us with a friend.
Thank you,
Brady Bala

Market News
Now available: Grass Fed Cow’s Milk, Kosher Cow’s Milk, and Grass Fed Mozzarella Cheese!
Dairy from both companies come from Southpoint Dairy Farm in Chiefland, Florida.
Except for a small ‘treat’ of grains inside the Parlor during milking, the cows only eat a natural grass based diet.
Southpoint Dairy is not certified organic and has a few practices which would prohibit it from being considered a “practicing organic” farm. The farm uses synthetic fertilizers to amend the soil for adequate forage grass production to feed their herd of Jersey dairy cows. This is a common practice for grass-fed farms here in Florida since our sandy soil lacks many of the organic compounds needed to sustain healthy grass and forage growth.
Most of the fertilizer for this dairy farm is organic, as they have a huge supply of cow manure to spread into the soil through their two huge pivot irrigation systems which double in the summer as a cooling mist system to keep the cows cool and stress free during the hot tropical summer months. Happy, stress free cows, get sick less, and therefore need less medicine to keep them well. The farm does not use routine antibiotics or rBGH.
The farm also employs a synthetic herbicide called GrazeOn Next to control the spread of invasive field weeds which would poison the animal or badly taint the flavor of the milk harvested.
Southpoint Dairy limits these ‘conventional’ practices to an “as needed” only basis. As an extra measure for food safety and quality, the Southpoint Dairy herd is “withheld” from a treated field for 7 days after application of these synthetic products as an added step to protect you, and your family’s, health even though they are not required since these products have been tested and labeled “safe” by the FDA to allow dairy animals to graze immediately upon treated fields.
Meeting the harsh demands of Florida’s sub-tropical climate and sandy soil, Homegrown Co-op thinks Southpoint Dairy as a part of the Alliance Grazing Group is leading the field at this point in the development and practice of sustainable farming at a scale that can really feed the population.
Q-Fresh Milk
The Q-Fresh family of food products upholds a standard of quality and freshness that far exceeds USDA requirements and dairy competitors. Known for extended shelf-life and superior flavor. Processed in a plant steam-sanitized at fifty degrees above USDA requirements where our proprietary bacteria extraction process, Bacdown, is employed.
The milk is Low Temp Pasteurized. Old Fashion “cream on top” whole milk. The milk has an extremely HIGH butter fat content. So high the butter fats will clump together. Skim this off to easily make homemade butter and cheese, or shake the bottle vigorously to mix together for cooking, a tall glass or blow of cereal.
Available in the Dairy and Cheese section of our online market is Cream on Top Grass-Fed Milk in 1 gallon, 1/2 gallon and 32 oz sizes, in addition to Mozzarella Cheese in 4 oz and 1/2 pound portions.
Tevye Farms
“If you have ever tasted genuine milk you’ve tasted something that has much more than great flavor. One gulp offers a sensation of freshness, purity, fullness and suavity. Milk is one of nature’s miracles. Tevye Farms mission is to leave the texture and sensation of our milk as nature intended. Tevye Farms’ milk is all natural and free from treated hormones. Our milk is certified, under kosher supervision from the time of the milking until bottling. This makes us the only Kosher Halav Yisroel milk produced in all of Florida. Kosher law strictly dictates how animals are to be fed and processed. Our Tevye Farms Brand remains a safe healthy choice among Jewish and non Jewish communities, especially in view of repeated cases of E. coli and mad cow disease. Consumers rightfully conclude that our milk is a safer and healthier alternative to commodity milk.”
Available in the Dairy and Cheese section of our online market: Kosher 1% Milk, 2% Milk, (in 1 gallon and 1/2 gallon sizes), Heavy Cream, Homogenized Whole Milk, and Skim Milk.

Cumberland Farmer's Market: Time to Order Local Food!
Well folks,
It’s the kind of day where I’m extra glad I can order my groceries here rather than go out in this weather. Fog makes me feel the need to be warm and cozy so I’ve been browsing the baked goods and can’t make up my mind! There’s nothing like warm scones, a piece of cake or a savory slice of pizza to take the edge off. In addition to the wonderful array of meats available, I also see a selection of greens and some new items from Ivywild to round out a winter meal. Please browse the entire list to see everything available. Happy eating!

Farm2Work: The Market is Opening Early Today!
Happy Friday!
The Market is opening early today because I am heading over to the Southern SAWG Conference at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock. The SSAWG is “…loaded with practical information tailored for those in the South producing organic and sustainable food on a commercial scale and for those in our region working to improve local food systems.” If you are interested in attending or would like more information, the conference website address is: http://www.ssawg.org/2012-Conference-Program.
On this weeks market: Cabbage, Kale, Broccoli, Arugula, Mizspoona, Collard Greens, New Potatoes, Radishes, and Turnip Greens, Ox Tail, Beef Tips, Andouille links, and even Unrendered Lard, just to name a few…
Housekeeping: The new $4.00 flat Assembly & Delivery fee was supposed to start today, however, the software does not allow for anything but percentages. Yes, I missed that crucial detail in the reviews. So, for now, we are just going to increase the percentage to 12% and keep working on a better solution.
In case you missed it earlier this week, we had a great article in the online edition of the Arkansas Times by Kat Robinson! Here is the link to the article: http://www.arktimes.com/EatArkansas/archives/2012/01/13/farm2work-bringing-the-farmers-market-to-where-you-are#.TxNfg4BmbXp.facebook
As always, please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns.
