Champaign, OH:  Right Back Where We Started From

Ooo and it’s alright and it’s comin’ ’long…
We got to get right back to where we started from…(Right Back Where We Started From-Maxine Nightingale)

Yes…so, along with my young love of all things hippie, rock and roll, and all things soul… I had a very passionate love of disco:) By now, we all know that your local market manager rocks the tunes, grooves to many genres of music, was a very young girl making her way to concerts, venues, clubs…all in good fun and a lot of sweet dance moves were had by all!

Anyway, as I worked the very quiet market, tonight, at the very quiet YMCA, this song popped into my head. We have all enjoyed the Champaign County fair, saw life slow to very relaxed paces around town, but now, this girl wants the excitement back!!

I don’t do well in the very relaxed, very quiet mode. I like fast paced, I like excitement, I like high adrenaline, I like the spinning disco ball, and I like all of my people in front of me!!!

So, tonight I open the market for the week, and I want to see a stampede of everyone!! We have produce, we welcome back vendors who have been in vacation mode, we have baked goods, local meats, dairy, spices, garlic.. we see the sweet corn coming in…we have it all!!

I want to see the little local market of love come alive, again!! I want to kick it into high gear just like the sweet dance moves of my disco time:)

Set the beat, get your groove on, boogie away, place those orders!!

Let’s get this market right back to where it was before we had the lull of fair week..

Show me your hustle!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Rivervalley.locallygrown:  2014 Muscadine Crop

The 2014 muscadine crop is progressing nicely. This unique fruit can be used for jam, jelly, juice, wine and many other items. The wet cool July may have slowed maturity but we are expecting a good crop. Color is beginning to show on some of the berries now so maybe it will not be to much longer.

rivervalley.locallygrown.net is a market that is open almost all the time. If you wish to place an order just go to the site and do so. Delivery and pick-up can be to your liking with several options available.

Have a great browseing session and order placement if you desire.

HALEY’S LOW CARB BAKERY
“Hi! I’m Haley Rasmussen, a local teenager living in Headland, Alabama. I have a passion for health and for making foods that embody this passion. My products are all strictly low-carbohydrate and gluten-free baked goods that taste great and also aid a cause. All of the proceeds from my products are donated to the Alabama Children’s Hospital Center for Weight Management. This program helps families across Alabama that are dealing with a very widespread issue in today’s society; childhood obesity. My goals are to aid this program by donating all the proceeds from my sales, to raise awareness in the local community about childhood obesity, and to create healthy low-carb and gluten-free products that taste great!”

THE SUGAR JUNKIE
“Being formally trained in classical European pastries and Artisan bread craftsmanship has given me a deep appreciation for REAL ingredients. My mission is to bring the wholesome foods back to our tables, which is why I stick to the “from scratch” method.”

*MESSAGE FROM MARYS PEEPS
“I thought it would be nice once a month to draw a name from every order I get in that month and at the end of the month for that last order, pick one of my products and give it to that drawn number. IT WOULD BE A RANDOM DRAW but someone among my customers would receive something free. I also would like to add some fresh herbs bundles occasionally to people who have ordered herbs in the past. My herbs needs thinning and I would like to share them! I am a sharing person and I appreciate my customers very much and would like to show them that. I would send a personal message to them for a month with orders so that this is what I will doing till after Christmas. Its my own way of appreciating my customers.”
THANK YOUMARYS PEEPS” for her hard work, dedication and true example of taking great care of her customers!

MARKET UPDATES
Veggies: Currently we have peppers, okra, butternut squash and some cherry tomatoes (Sungold is my favorite snack this time of year!) The late summer heat is making it kind of difficult to project what will be sellable six days out as farmers typically add inventory on Wednesdays. I’ll share in Sunday’s blog if new things come up!

Flavored Butters & Cheeses – I texted a little with Russell last night while he was out in the field on his tractor. He’s trying to get the silage made for his cows (cutting the corn plants off and fermenting it for feed later in the season, with all of those healthy probiotics!!!) so he can get to his value-added products, so he can get them on market, so we can order them to enjoy. We made silage for our beef herd back in the day, and I imagine August in Georgia, using an open-air tractor is much worse than in September in Ohio with an air-conditioned cab. I don’t know how Russell stores his but ours was a concrete bunker requiring a bulldozer, topped with a huge tarp and tires to keep the tarp in place. Strenuous, sweaty work indeed!

Pork & Beef: Benji has seven cuts of his yummy pork listed this week and Fred has 17 cuts of his wonderful grass-fed, grass-finished beef! Brady has pork shares available. I’m still looking for a freezer ~ sigh ~

Chicken: Tracy has moved to delivering every six weeks or so and we are scheduled for a drop this Saturday! Please consider buying your own package (starts at $99) next go-around as we simply do not have storage space for six weeks for market :-(

Champaign, OH:  Opening Night!

Well, just opening of the market, tonight…but still, always a big event of the week!! I get so excited, each Thursday, after we close out the market pick up, and then I write your opening market Weblog…the excitement never leaves!!

Anyway, this is serving as a heads up about the market, tonight…

We bring you a new vendor but he has vended for me and the Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans market for years!! He won’t be around for long and this is why I want you to be aware…

He is Brad Gregg, he comes from Gregg Farms and he brings you his AMAZING sweet corn!!!! He sells out of his truckloads, each Tuesday night, up in the ’burg, and he took me up on my offer to have his corn, here, for sale!!

You don’t want to miss this because sweet corn season goes by so quickly!!!

Thanks so much for always supporting our hardworking farmers, growers, producers, here in our little local market of love…

Champaign, OH:  Star Status!!

Good morning!! I am sending this morning Weblog to make a very special announcement and to give huge snaps to our lovely farm family of End Of The Road Farms!! It is now their time to SHINE!!

If you have met them or gone on their farm tour, you know what a unique, special, hard working, family of love that they have going on out in Fletcher.
You know that their products are superior on our market!! I, as a baker, now exclusively use only their spelt flour for some of my specialty breads.

Last night, when I came in from a day in the Cosmic shop, I sat down to check my emails while enjoying a glass of wine. I received the most lovely updates from Lee and Jennifer from End Of The Road…here is what they sent me and I got teary eyed for them!!

Let’s all give them the snaps and applause that they deserve…

Congratulations! Your farm is now featured on the Certified Naturally Grown home page.

Check it out here: www.naturallygrown.org Don’t be modest – tell your friends and customers! Certified Naturally Grown farms and apiaries are committed to the highest ideals of sustainable agriculture. Congratulations on becoming one of our poster farmers! Thanks for all you do to help build a sustainable food system in your community. We will of course highlight your farm via our Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you use social media, be sure to share our Facebook post about your farm, and re-tweet our mention of your farm on Twitter. The CNG Team

I think that is just a really big deal kind of honor…
