Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  It's Time to Order from Manchester Locally Grown Farmers' Market - Welcome to Basically Breads

Manchester Locally Grown online farmers’ market is now open for ordering.

Welcome to Basically Breads from Manchester. Look for her sourdough, cinnamon Amish, banana nut, zucchini, and apple cinnamon breads on the market very soon.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has some beautiful fall-flowering anemone and aster plants just budding up nicely. Several varieties of the ferns, lots of herbs, colorful coral bells, and the gauras are beautiful in the fall. Now is the ideal time to plant perennials: cooler evening temperatures (and daytime too!) are helping these plants to develop good sttong root systems for good winter survival rates.

What a bountiful supply of vegetables we still have available! White City Produce and Greenhouses still has lots of green beans, pickling cucumbers, eggplant, mixed greens, okra, onions, summer squash, zucchini, and several varieties of tomatoes & peppers. Solace Farm has beets, carrots, and several types of garlic. Frontier Family Farms has bibb and green oakleaf lettuce, which make excellent salads and wraps.

Our other farmers have some great products for your consideration:

  • Doorstep Bakery French Sourdough bread and “Mad Hatter” jams

  • Weaver Farms pork products

  • Herbal bath & body products, local honey, fresh-laid chicken & duck eggs, and plenty more here.

  • REMEMBER:
    • PLEASE do not write out your checks ahead of your market pickup. Growers can sometimes remove items at the last minute, affecting your invoice. Please wait until your total is established at market.
    • If you do not receive an order confirmation within 5 minutes, your order has NOT been placed in the system. Try logging back in and see if there is anything in your cart. If so, press the Place Your Order button; then you should receive an e-mail to confirm the order. E-MAIL tnhomeschooler@yahoo.com OR CALL US at (931) 273-9708 if the problem persists so you will not be disappointed on market day.

Take a look at our offerings and support your friends and neighbors who produce these quality items on their own farms. Remember: ordering will close on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

(L to R) Fresh Sage and Bronze muscadines from White City Produce & Greenhouses, Pink anemone plant from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse, Several flavors of granola from Triple B Farms, Ham slices from Weaver Farms.

We’ll see you for pickup of your order on Thursday between 3:00 and 4:30 at Square Books, 113 E Main, Manchester. We can also hold your order in the refrigerator for you till Friday morning, if that’s more convenient for you. Just call (931) 273-9708 if you prefer to utilize this free service. Square Books will be open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thanks so much for your support of Manchester Locally Grown Market, all of our growers, local food, and our right to eat it. Please encourage our local farmers by helping to spread the word about our wonderful market to everyone you know. Nothing makes a farmer more excited than seeing new customers on the market!

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market is Open!

    Welcome back market,

Looks like Autumn came on strong while we took the week off. In the midst of falling leaves and artificial pumpkin spiced-everything, there’s still loads of local food to warm our souls. We even gained some new growers while you were gone. So rejoice! The market is back open with lots of new products!

    • We’ve still got a few tickets left for our Fall Fundraiser: Foodcraft coming up this weekend. Learn new culinary skills from some of the most talented foodies around all while supporting your Arkansas Local Food Network. Tickets can either be bought through the market under ALFN Tickets and Gifts or through our eventbrite.
    • A big market welcome to Birds & Bees Honey and their 100% pure, raw, and chemical-free honey straight outta South Arkansas. This honey is bursting with wild sweetness and comes with a whole host of health benefits.
    • Another market welcome goes out to Crescent Creek Farm and their pasture-raised eggs. These eggs are from hens that are rotated across pastures where they are free to feel the wind in their feathers, pick the ground for delicious bugs, and generally embrace their chicken-ness in a natural, stress-free setting.
    • Homegrown honeydew from Barnhill Orchards. Check out the specials section to get a great deal on matching a melon with their pears and/or cantaloupe.
    • More muscadines, now from Kornegay Berry Farm. Turns out they’re not all that hard to de-seed, and it’s well worth it for this simple and delicious dump cake.

We’re so excited that the inaugural St. Joseph Farm Fest is just two weeks away! Farm Fest is a weekend celebration of sustainable agriculture and healthy lifestyles presented by St. Joseph Farm and the Farm and Food Innovation Center.
Join us during two days of farm tours, speakers, artisan craft demonstrations, local music, and good food and drinks at St. Joseph Farm in North Little Rock. You can donate here to help make this amazing festival happen and purchase tickets here to join in on the Fall fun.

    Happy Autumn Eating!

I will be reaching out this coming week to those who expressed an interest in purchasing cold expelled coconut oil and fermented cod liver oil. Things for responding!

I’m really enjoying meeting all of you who come and support the Market! In case I haven’t gotten to talk to you except to just fill your order, my name is Cheryl and I’m the “new” kid on the block! I’ve known Pilar for a little while now and came to help out on the Farm this Summer. I’m the “Kombucha Girl” who has helped get a long awaited dream of Pilar’s off the ground! She believes in fermented and nutrient dense foods so this is one of many things we are planning to add to the Market.
I studied and received my certification as health and wellness coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition so the Market is important to me for the health and wellness of all of you!
If you have anything you wish we would carry, please reach out to me and let me know!

We are going to be offering gift baskets for the Holidays! How fun to give someone a basket of yummy natural products to pamper themselves with! We will keep you posted on those!

Northeast Georgia Locally Grown:  Northeast Georgia Locallygrown Availability for Oct 3

    Good evening Locavores
The evening is cool and fall is coming in a big way this weekend. Here in Tiger we are expecting a low temperature of about 37 Sunday morning.
Located at the head of Bettys Creek and lower slopes of Pickens Nose Mtn, Leah Lake Farm is preparing for a low of 34 degrees. Leah Lake is taking this week off from the market to prepare hoop houses for frost and also plant garlic and winter crops. We will miss their greens but, they will be back next week.
The cool temperatures will make the greens a little sweeter as well as wild delicacies like persimmons and fox grapes. This would be a good weekend for some hiking and wild foraging.
Put a blanket on the bed and enjoy the weekend, starting with foraging on Locallygrown.
