Market News

Welcome back to another week of locally grown and made products. The pick up schedule for Murfreesboro customers returns to Wednesday. There is still no pick up available for Nashville customers this week.

Several vendors are taking a vacation this week. They include Botanical Harmony, Chef Jenny, Flying S Farm, Kelly Creek Farm and the Blue Porch. White City Produce and Greenhouse has completed their growing season and will return this spring. Tami sends this message to everyone – I just want to say thank you to everyone for your support this season. We’re looking forward to a great 2015! Happy New Year!

Rocky Glade Farm tells me they only have two to three more weeks left for sweet potatoes. They still have half and full bushel quantities on the Carolina Ruby. Covington variety is very limited.

West Wind Farm has re-stocked many of their beef products including ground beef.

Linda with Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has this message:

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has some very nice herb baskets which will make useful as well as pretty table decorations this winter. With a little water and a little artificial light, they will produce clippings for your wintertime cooking. Available herbs are:

  • LEMON BALM
  • MINTS (chocolate, peppermint, pineapple [variegated], spearmint, grapefruit)
  • OREGANO (Greek or variegated)
  • ROSEMARY
  • RUE
  • SAGE, Garden
  • STEVIA (small but healthy)
  • THYME (Lemon, English, silver-edged, citrus, lime)

Please specify three herbs to be included. Finished basket is approximately 12" diameter and 6" tall.

We have a couple left-over kissing balls that will make good decorations for your winter garden for several more weeks. Right now these are on after-Christmas close-out special, marked half-price.

We also have some other nice houseplants, dish gardens, windowsill gardens, and hanging baskets to brighten up your indoor wintertime. Check them out on the market!

There are plenty of other products available this week. Browse the categories to see what your will find.

Thanks so much for your support of Stones River Market, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. We’ll see you on Wednesday at Southern Stained Glass at 310 West Main Street from 5:00 to 6: 30 pm!

Good evening to all of our friends within The Wednesday Market community. We trust that everyone had a Merry Christmas yesterday. We certainly did!

Due to the holiday falling on Wednesday, we are moving our pick up time and date to Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. Please place your orders by Sunday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. (This is the same pattern we used last week and during the week of Thanksgiving.)

We return to our “normal” schedule for the first Market of the new year, Jan. 7, 2015. The Market will be turned on for ordering late Saturday evening, Jan. 3. OTHER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
If you know of anyone who isn’t receiving our (general) e-mails that we send to the entire customer and grower bases (which would include Order Confirmations that come out of our proprietary software e-mail account that is re-directed via Mailgun.us: We have been working with a tech from BLomand who has done a large amount of troubleshooting and research.

If you have an e-mail address that is through Yahoo or BellSouth (Yahoo actually hosts BellSouth e-mail), you will need to go into your Contacts list and add these two addresses:
cumberlandfm@gmail.com
*@mailgun.us

If you have an e-mail address through BLomand, you will need to go into your Gray Mail and add as a Friend these two addresses:
cumberlandfm@gmail.com
mailgun.us

If you have an e-mail address that is from another provider (gmail should be OK, but you never know…), use one of the iterations above.

Also, if you want an entire domain to be “approved,” you can, for example, enter the following as a Contact/Friend (for gmail, let’s say):
*@gmail.com

If, after doing all this, you are still not receiving our e-mails (at the very least the Saturday Blog opening the market), you will have to get in touch with your e-mail provider and tell them to recognize our address as well as the mailgun address. Just giving them the cumberlandfm@gmail.com address will not be sufficient.

We hope this helps resolve these problems going forward!

Kir and Linda

ANSWERING MARKET E-MAILS
Please DO NOT press “Reply” to our software’s automated e-mails. This includes Blog e-mails (such as this one), your Order Confirmation e-mail, or even Account Balance/Adjustment e-mail. If you need to contact us via e-mail, just compose a new e-mail with an appropriate Subject line and send it to cumberlandfm@gmail.com. This will ensure your e-mail is seen (not always possible with a Reply to Order Confirmations, for example) so we can best help you.

ALSO, we are checking e-mail only several times a week, so it may take a short while for us to get back with you. You are always welcome to call 931.592.3399 (no voice mail) to reach us more quickly. Thanks!
-————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
EBT CAPABILITY IS BACK!
We are pleased to announce that the CFM is once again able to process EBT cards.
-————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
REQUESTING DELIVERY
If you would like your market order delivered, please contact Rachel Lynch, the new Sewanee delivery driver. E-mail: radelo50@yahoo.com or phone 931-598-0774.

Please remember that payment of all CFM orders MUST be made in advance of Tuesday’s delivery. Checks must be mailed in time to be posted to customer accounts before closing of market ordering on Monday. To ensure your account always has a positive balance, the CFM prefers payments in increments of at least $100.00. Mail checks made out to CFM to Kir Strobel, 744 Timberwood Trace, Monteagle, TN 37356.

Should at-home delivery not work for you, you may leave your order at the Center to be picked up by you or a designée by 6 p.m. Wednesday. As with any left-behind order, there will be a $3.00 fee unless that order has been prepaid in full in advance. Don’t forget there is no freezer at the Center for the foreseeable future, so it is imperative your items be picked up in a timely manner.
-———————————————————————————————————————————————————-
PLACING AN ORDER
Before you order, be sure you see the little shopping cart. If you do not, log out and log in again. If this fails, turn off your computer completely and start again. This includes ordering from smart phones.

If you want to leave a comment for a grower, be sure to put it in the “Leave comment for grower” area in RED beneath the item you’re ordering. Placing comments in the market manager section will not be seen by the growers.
-————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Don’t forget…
If you do not receive an order confirmation within 5 minutes, your order has NOT been placed in the system. E-MAIL OR CALL US to get the problem solved so you will not be disappointed on market day.

Please remember the market closes at 10 a.m. on Monday; therefore, your order must be completed and placed, and you should be signed out of the software.
-————————————————————————————————————————————————————
If you have any questions, please call (931.592.3399, no voice mail) or e-mail (cumberlandfm@gmail.com) us.

Happy New Year!

Athens Locally Grown:  ALG Open for December 30

Since Thursday of this week is New Year’s Day, a terrible day to try to hold a market, we’re going to try something a little different. We’ll be moving the next ALG pickup to TUESDAY, December 30, from 4:30 to 8pm at Ben’s Bikes. The time and place will stay the same — only the day will change. The website is open for you now to place your order, and you have through Sunday night to get your order in. We’ll see you on Tuesday!

Your order confirmation email will still say Thursday, as it always does, but don’t let that confuse you. I’ll email those of you with orders on Tuesday morning reminding you of this one-time change of schedule.

In the meantime, you can help bring a wonderful local food related event to Athens. A recent episode of the Colbert Report hosted Eva Longoria, actress and activist, speaking about the movie “Food Chains”, for which she served as an executive producer. The film explores the Fair Food campaign of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and has been getting a lot of press. Athenian Dr. Shane Hamilton appears in the film as a talking head, along with Eva and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation). For anyone with even a passing interest in modern food systems, economic inequality, social justice, women’s rights, or activism, this is a film worth seeing.

And you can see it! CINE will be screening the film at 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 14th, to be followed by a short Q&A with Dr. Hilda Kurtz (Geography), Dr. Cecilia Herles (Women’s Studies), and Dr. Shane Hamilton (History). But because the film is being “crowdfunded,” anyone who wants to see the film to reserve a ticket today. If a minimum threshold of reservations aren’t made, the film doesn’t screen.

You can reserve your ticket at (and share with friends, colleagues, and fellow food folks) the following link: https://www.tugg.com/events/12322.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on TUESDAY, December 30, at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Florida Suncoast Locally Grown:  market is open:)

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market is Open and Our Board Needs You!

Merry Morning,

The market is open with lots of wonderful local products to start 2015 off right. The new year looks to begin as one of change, as the results of ALFN’s recent strategic planning process showed that recruiting new board members with specific skills is our organization’s top priority. Like many non-profits, we rely heavily on board members to advise and govern our current and future well-being. We’re currently recruiting folks with a passion for local food to fill the following roles on ALFN’s Board:

  • Fundraising Chair – Someone that can oversee bringing in diverse revenue streams for ALFN, preferably with fundraising experience.
  • Business Chair – Responsible for organizational growth, business consulting, strategic marketing, and promotion. Preferably someone with marketing/PR experience.

If you believe that you or someone you know would make a good fit for either of these roles, please e-mail arlocalfoodnetwork@gmail.com or call 501.291.2769 to learn more about serving on ALFN’s Board. Thanks so much for all that you do to support a stronger local food system. Here’s to a safe, relaxing, and local 2015!
