This year-round online farmers’ market offers eggs, herbal products, local honey, winter vegetables, fresh greens, and pork products, all produced on local farms. Go through all the categories and find some great things to brighten up your winter meals. Support your friends and neighbors who have grown and produced these items.

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market is Open and We're Hiring!

Howdy Food Clubbers,

The market is open and ready for orders of delicious local food! Though I can’t seem to get anything to grow this time of year, folks like Barnhill Orchards know how to keep the market bountiful all year long. Check out photos from our recent visit to their beautiful farm out in the sandhills of Lonoke County.

I’m excited to announce that ALFN is seeking applicants for a part-time Program and Market Manager position. We’re looking for motivated folks that are passionate about sustainable agriculture to manage our programs, communicate with our stakeholders, and contribute to the sustainability and growth of our mission. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and contact information for two professional references to arlocalfoodnetwork@gmail.com by Sunday, March 15th. Contact Alex at arlocalfoodnetwork@gmail.com or 501.291.2769 for the full job description.

And one last friendly reminder that this Saturday, March 7th is the day we’ll implement a few new policy changes. Please remember to bring a form of payment with you to Food Club, since if you don’t have one, we can’t let you go home with your order. Beginning on March 9th, Monday pick-up will be from 5-6pm and there will be a $2.50 convenience charge for all Monday orders. These changes are being made to ensure the financial viability of Food Club moving forward. Please do let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Local Love,

- Alex Handfinger
Director of Operations

Farm to Table Recipes

SAUSAGE, KALE & LENTIL SOUP
Ingredients
2 tablespoons EVOO, plus more for drizzling
1 pound hot or sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 fresh bay leaves
2 stems fresh rosemary
1 carrot, finely chopped
1 large or 2 medium onions, chopped
1 potato, peeled and cut into small dice
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 bunch black kale, stemmed and chopped
A few gratings fresh nutmeg
1/2 cup dry white or red wine
6 cups chicken stock
1 1/4 cups brown lentils
Shaved Pecorino cheese, for serving
Directions
Heat the EVOO in a soup pot over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, crumbling with a wooden spoon, until browned. Add the garlic, bay leaves, rosemary, carrots, onions and potatoes and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are soft, 7 to 8 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the kale and nutmeg. Add the wine to deglaze the pot, stirring and scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Stir in the chicken stock and 2 cups water and bring to boil (for thicker soup, use 2 cups less liquid).

Stir in the lentils and cook at a low, bubbly simmer until the lentils are tender, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the rosemary stems and bay leaves.

Ladle the soup into bowls and top with a drizzle of EVOO and the shaved Pecorino.
