CLG:  Opening Bell: New Grower: Wylde Abandon Farm

Good afternoon,
I’m pleased to announce a new Grower, from right here in Conway: Bobby Burrows at Wylde Abandon Farm. Take a look at his listed items and you will find black cherry tomatoes, jalapenos, squash and zucchini right now. Over the next couple of weeks he will have broccoli, radishes, several types of slicing tomatoes, hot peppers, acorn squash, butternut squash, and lettuce. Beyond that he will have cauliflower, carrots, kale, cabbage, spinach, cucumbers, and pumpkins. When I visited his place recently, I was impressed with how he has transformed raw meadow-land into neatly arranged raised beds. His operation is small now, but he has the vision to expand every year. All his items are grown organically!

Geek Eats is back with fresh hummus and granola!

Kombucha! Make your own. Check it out!

Shiitake Mushrooms are available for ordering now, and we anticipate having them delivered weekly from Kingston, AR.

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table.

The market is now OPEN for orders. Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!

Have a great week!
Steve

Champaign, OH:  You Ain't Goin' Nowhere...

Buy me a flute and a gun that shoots…
Tailgates and substitutes…
Strap yourself to a tree with roots…
You ain’t goin’ nowhere…
(The Byrds – You Ain’t Goin Nowhere)(Written and also performed by Bob Dylan)

This has been a whirlwind, crazy kind of week. Flying by, loads to get done, markets to tend to, shop hours, and all of my venues. Those of you who know me, know that I get by with coffee, wine, tunes, and of course…a little help from my friends.

Yesterday, I needed to make my delivery to Springfield, where I am the house bread/table bread of Seasons Bistro and Grille. I was tired, I close up my shop, and hit the road with crates of bread. This song popped on my playlist, I had totally forgotten how much I adore this song, and before long, I was singing, blasting the tune, and tearing up the streets to my destination.

Like all of you, I get help where I can…yesterday, it was all about the music, and helping me get through that delivery drive.

Our little local market of love is like that…it can be your friend, it can help you through your busy week, and it can give you that last little energy boost, next Thursday, at pick up, that you didn’t know you needed, but it will feel so totally groovy knowing that all you need to do is crank up your favorite tune, head to the YMCA, and let your market friends take care of all the work…

We “Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere…”

It’s Thursday, I open the market up for the week, and I would like to urge you all to take advantage of the berries…Cathy told us that it could be the last week…don’t miss out!!

And…BTW…did any customer mistakenly go home with a pint of my golden raspberries? I always keep them at the managers table, to snack on during the market, because I never have time for lunch on Thursdays. But, tonight, after filling a few orders, they were gone…if you have them, please enjoy them!! They are my favs…they will become your favs, too!!

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Chef’s Corner

Mexibowls, my name for a dish of rice and beans, are an inexpensive and satisfying meal. The combination of whole grains with legumes creates a perfect amino acid profile, creating a protein rich, blood sugar stabilizing, nutritious addition to your meal. I like to add all kinds of veggies and sometimes cheese to a pile of brown rice and beans del dia. Salsa, guacamole, shredded greens, sauteed nopales, pickled carrots or peppers…the combinations are endless and changing it up with the seasons keeps the palate excited! This week I topped black beans and brown rice with Dandelion’s whirled peas, a lettuce mix of Kissimmee’s kale and tangy lettuce (aka mizuna) with Jim’s mitsuba, Wildflower’s Persian lime, chevre and tomato salsa. I made my mexibowl in the morning to take with me for lunch and it was perfect at room temperature. Cooking the rice and beans in the morning takes less effort than you think. The cooking time isn’t interactive, so its quite easy to put them on the stove, set a timer and let it cook while you are getting ready for the day. Soaking the beans overnight will cut down on the cooking time. A soaked cup of black beans for 10-12 hours in the refrigerator will be ready in 30 minutes and brown rice in 40 minutes.

Buen Appetito!
Chef Amy
