This week on Wednesday in store only! – members will be able to buy Organic Ezekiel & Muesli Bread from 20 Shekels at %50 off!
*Non members will be able to purchase the bread at member rates.

Farm Update: we won’t have any more eggs from Twenty Four Rivers Farm till the first of the year 2013. Due to the weather snap the Shram’s lost production early but luckily because of their protein sales they’re able to keep things moving.

If membership wants to go with egg’s from Lake Meadow Naturals – a farm in Ocoee, FL – that’s something to be investigated.

We only have 7 more boxes available this week and dozens of items available.. and there will be some extra produce at the co-op available for purchase wed-friday.

“Perhaps most difficult to quantify is that this kind of farming — more thoughtful and less reflexive — requires more walking of the fields, more observations, more applications of fertilizer and chemicals if, when and where they’re needed, rather than on an all-inclusive schedule. “You substitute producer knowledge for blindly using inputs,” Davis says.

So: combine crop rotation, the re-integration of animals into crop production and intelligent farming, and you can use chemicals (to paraphrase the report’s abstract) to fine-tune rather than drive the system, with no loss in performance and in fact the gain of animal products.

Why wouldn’t a farmer go this route? One answer is that first he or she has to hear about it. Another, says Matt Liebman, one of the authors of the study and an agronomy professor at Iowa State, is that, “There’s no cost assigned to environmental externalities” — the environmental damage done by industrial farming, analogous to the health damage done by the “cheap” standard American diet — “and the profitability of doing things with lots of chemical input isn’t questioned.”

We are starting to ramp up business as the growing season slowly picks up from the wet summer and fall that delayed planting for farmers.

NOTE FROM GROWER ORGANICALLY INCLINED: HOW TO MAINTAIN FRESHNESS OF DELIVERED PRODUCT When you purchase items from Donna, please note that plastic bags are used only to transfer the product to you. All nuts and seeds, chunks of energy products or anything containing oil should be refrigerated in glass jar to avoid contents from picking up odors and to keep it fresh. Plastic packaging does not protect contents from absorbing surrounding odors and is not airtight which means that oils can go rancid. Refrigeration is not needed for dried fruit (dates, cranberries, raisins), and legumes & grains (lentils, beans, peas, rice, oats) but they should be stored away from light, within closed glass jars to keep out the humidity. All good advice to keep your precious purchase fresh!

Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. The market has got great stuff. Radishes galore. Check out this guide on Martha Stuart’s site for great radish recipes! We’ve also got turnips and some cool recipes for them, including Turnip Fries as well as Turnip and Sweet Potato Gratin. Delicious!

CAFE:  Tailgate Prize Awarded!!

Monday Update 10/29/12


As promised, the Best Loka-color Tailgate plate was awarded at the City of Clemson Farmers Market last Friday. The prize went to Connor Lemacher who constructed the spelling of C-L-E-M-S-O-N (see photo on Facebook page) with vegetables grown at the Student Organic Farm. For his creative efforts we are offering young Connor either10 stuffed bags of fresh, local spinach; or a Sylvan Falls Mill chocolate cake.

Remember that as outdoor farmers markets are closing for the year CAFÉ remains open year round and even as the temps will be dropping this week, our Fall crops are only beginning to arrive, and we anticipate another long extended season of Fall greens as more and more of our Growers incorporate season-extending practices and technologies.

Continue shopping until noon today. You may even still purchase miniature pumpkins from Parisi Farms.

South Cumberland Food Hub:  Time to order Local Food!

Good Morning everyone!
It’s time to order your local food from the South Cumberland Food Hub.

This week we want to welcome a new grower- The Dutchmaid Bakery. They are located in Tracy City and if any of you have ever eaten there, you know how yummy the baked goods are! They have breads available, in 2 sizes, and some cinnamon rolls. So check it out.

Due to the farmers having limited time to harvest with our ordering system, I would like everyone to do their best to order by noon on Mondays. If you have problems getting your order in on time, just let me know and we’ll see what we can work out.

Clemson SC:  Clemson orders Due in this Morning

Hello Clemson Friends!
These past three weeks have been quite rough for Donna, having had gall stones blocking the bile duct,causing great havoc in my body and environment. I have been in for testing, and though these stones successfully passed, more are waiting to announce their presence in a not so nice way. So, maybe surgery is called for. I see the surgeon soon.
In the mean time, our market manager, Heidi has carried on and covered in places, as well as Anna from Greenville USLG, who has packed all our orders and made sure everything was there for me.
I am so grateful for these wonderful friends who jump in there and do what is needed.
If you wish to order this week, please get your orders in soon. We will be closing ordering the market soon this morning, and we do need a few more orders to make the trip expenses. So, I hope that you needed this reminder, and will log on and order your supply of beef, chicken, eggs, dairy, and veggies.
