New Field Farm's Online Market:  My apologies!!

Hi again,

I’m very sorry that my last email showed names. It was supposed to go out as an unidentified group email.

Again, my apologies.

Foothills Market:  The Market is Open - July 7

Summer has really settled in, right? The forecast today is for temperatures of 99 degrees with a heat index higher than 100 degrees.

The hot temperatures mean the various kinds of green beans are done for, but we have a new product to add to the market in their place – lima beans. Don’t let preconceived notions about lima beans make you run away screaming; fresh lima beans are much tastier than their canned cousins.

We also have some sweet corn available, although it’s had a rough life. Winds from two thunderstorms left the stalks bent nearly to the ground. We’re leaving the ears on the stalks as long as we possibly can so the corn is as fresh as possible when it is picked. Let’s hope the raccoons don’t have wi-fi and decide to harvest the corn the night before orders are to be delivered!

We also have some really pretty eggplant this week – some of the prettiest we’ve ever grown.

The market will be open to accept orders from noon today until 5 p.m. Friday. Orders will be available for pickup at the farmers’ market on the courthouse square from 9-11 Saturday morning.

You can access the market through this link.

Eat something fresh this week!

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

Good morning everyone!

The Market is now OPEN until Monday at noon!! Click here to order now!

Hope your week is going well so far. There's a few things on the agenda this week I wanted to share with you all. First of all, after much discussion between Pilar and myself we have come to the conclusion that is best if everyone adds a credit card to their account and choose the online payment method at checkout. Unfortunately we've had a few no-call/no-show which leaves us with the responsibility for that order, including payment. Sorry if this is an inconvenience for anyone, but it seems to be the best solution for the problem.

Back to business, I keep on forgetting to tell you all about Debra's BLUEBERRIES! She grows them using organic methods, and they are super delicious. I will have a few pints on hand at the market this week, $3.40/pint limited quantity available!

Also don't forget we have Kombucha available, very mild taste and absolutely refreshing. Great way to get your probiotics for the day! As always come get your weekly essentials:

  • Raw cow's and goat's milk
  • Pastured chicken and duck eggs
  • Pastured chicken and pork
  • Grass fed beef
  • Local Honey
  • Organic Veggies
  • and more!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, as well as any feedback on how we can better serve you. I am available Monday-Thursday 11am-4pm. grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com or 770-339-3065 ext 5

The Market is open Thursday at 9am – Monday at noon. After Monday at noon, ordering is disabled until Thursday morning. Pick up your order Tuesday from 4-7pm only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This Week at The Cumming Harvest

THIS WEEK…Flowers – Squash – Tomatoes – Berries!

Happy Independence Day to everyone out there! Today is the day we celebrate our independence from the tyranny of a king, but it’s also a great occasion to think about our independence from all sorts of things. Your support of The Cumming Harvest greatly helps the cause of food independence for our community, for starters. Did you know that, on average, American farmer receives only nine cents out of every dollar that gets spent on food? By the time you take out the cut of the processors, the distributors, the wholesalers, and so forth, only 9% is left for the farm. And of course, they’ve got to try to meet all of the expenses of running a farm with that money, and pretty much the only way to do that is by consolidating the farmland into huge “corporate” farms that can get by with the economies of scale. The farms might be independent family-owned enterprises on paper, but they’re beholden to all of those other interests that control the other 91% of the food dollar. Here at The Cumming Harvest, the growers keep 90% of every dollar, turning small, truly family owned and operated farms into viable businesses. That fosters variety for you, provides a sustainable use of the area’s green space, and helps us to be a more self-reliant community.

For you, too, these growers and their products let you become independent from the corporate grocer, who is told by the corporate office in Cincinnati or Bentonville or Asheville what they can and can’t stock and who they can source their produce from. You’re given the freedom to choose who grows and produces your food and how they grow and produce it. If you don’t like one grower’s products or methods, you have others, all located right here, to choose from.

And of course by sourcing your food so close to home, you don’t have to be reliant on an overtaxed and under-vigilant inspection system to make sure your food is safe. The Federal government is actively trying to reduce your ability to choose where your food comes from in the name of safety, so not everything is rosy. Our fight for independence is an ongoing one, and your voice in support of the small local producer does get heard.

Carrell Farms and Buffalo Gal are on vacation this week.
