Dawson Local Harvest:  Free-range Pork joins Fall Vegetables!

Dawson Local Harvest for Sept. 30

Free-range Pork joins Fall Vegetables!

HI EVERYBODY!

Fall is officially here, the heat has finally breaking, and fresh tastes are becoming available again. First up, FIVE HENS has their free-range Pork available, with Sausage, uncut Bacon, Boston Butt, Pork Chops, and other cuts now available. Word to the wise, FIVE HENS is small and their Pork availability depends on the readiness of the next “candidate”, so it’s a good idea to take advantage and stock up as you can.

GREEN BEANS ARE BACK at LEILANI’S, fresh-picked and tender, along with several varieties of Lettuce and Chard. We thought Turnips would be ready last week (they weren’t), but they are this week, both the White and the spicy Red. Both are wonderful in salads for taste, texture, and color, and you can saute’ them as an excellent side dish as well. Check the Vegetable section to see everything that’s available.

Other notables at the Market include fresh Eggs of different sizes, raw Milk, and wonderful Breads and Baked Goods from DAILY BREAD. High on the list is Organic Pumpkin Roll, Apple Bread, Pumpkin Bread, Everything Bagels, and Ezekiel Bread, but there’s a lot more to see in their listings. Take a good look.

THE MARKET WILL OPEN Sunday night at 8pm!

REMEMBER! You can order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.

Have a happy and healthy week!

ALFN Local Food Club:  The Market Is Open!

Hello ALFN Members!

The market is open!

This week is my first time writing for the ALFN blog, and it’s making my transition into the Program & Market Manager position feels a little more real! Let me start off by saying how lucky I feel to be a part of this incredible community. Urban food systems are one of my passions, and I can’t think of a better way to fuel that passion and serve my neighbors than by working with ALFN. I’m excited to expand the network of producers and buyers and support all our Localvores.

I’ve already had the chance to meet many of you, and will hopefully start to learn names in the upcoming weeks (although I will confess that is a weak spot of mine, so please be patient as I say the wrong one a few times!). If you see a new face at market, chances are it’s probably mine, so feel free to say hi.

This week is also an exciting one because ALFN was featured in Soiree Magazine! Check out the link below to read the article, and please PLEASE share it on your social media pages. Let’s spread the word about what we’re doing!

Soiree Magazine

Again, thank you all for the warm welcome. I’m happy to be here doing this work. Now, if you’ll forgive me the pun…Let’s go grow!

CLG:  Opening Bell: Honey, Peppers, Apples, Beef!

Good afternoon!
By the time you read this, cooler weather should be moving into our area, making for a very pleasant week. Several folks had asked me if I could turn down the heat just a bit, so I hope you enjoy these fall temps.

If you ever have trouble logging in, or ordering, or anything related to your account or the website, please email, text, or call me. I will be happy to assist you. My cell is 501-339-1039.

Every week we have 3 or 4 volunteers helping to get your orders inventoried and distributed. They work from 2-6pm on Fridays, and earn a $20 credit to their CLG account. I think you will agree with me that these people are a critical part of our operation. If you would like to be on our volunteer list, just text or email me. I am making the October schedule this week.

Browse the market categories. Find your favorite items, or try something new. Have something local at every meal this week!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

Check out over 650 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders.

Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!
Have a great week!

Market News

SO MUCH TO SHARE!! PLEASE read through everything!

As always, we are seeking out new, small, local diverse businesses to support! We LOVE the growers we have here and appreciate them to the moon and back. Ashleigh and I meet new folks at live markets all the time and feel that the growers/makers we have are the BEST of who’s in Middle Tennessee! All in one convenient place!

As we bid well wishes to Sean at Nuance Coffee & Tea and thank him for years of roasted coffee and specialty teas…

Please welcome Erin and Bethany from E & B Coffee Roasters. They have 4 products on the market this week, one for every coffee lover! Either Certified Organic or Rainforest Alliance Certified and all Fair-Trade… Oh my goodness!! Incredible and the Sumatra is my favorite, Iced or Hot!! We hope Erin and Bethany will be able to set up a meet and greet table very soon.

Also welcome Virgin Bay Seafood YES, we said SEAFOOD in TN… before you shrug this off, hear them out!
-We source 100% sustainable and wild caught Alaskan Seafood. All products are blast frozen and vac sealed in AK for the long journey to TN. We have 4 different species of Salmon, Halibut, Cod, Crab and Scallops. We also offer Salmon Burger and Smoked Salmon. All products are 100% Wild, so availability can vary throughout the year.

There is so much I have learned about Virgin Bay and how they do business, how intense the process is to get “one line, one fish” at a time to your table (words from one of their market representatives who has taught me so much about this family and their business!) and how much they love what they do!
They have many products available along with their version of a CSA listed on the market!! Please take some time to see all they offer!

Both E&B and Virgin Bay Seafood are fellow market vendors with us at the Nolensville Farmers Market. From watching the lines at both booths, seeing repeat customers bring praises and excitement in supporting these small, local (YES, Virgin Bay’s Cathy is an MTSU graduate!), we truly felt the calling to invite them into our market family. We hope you are as pleased as we are with the quality!!

Linda from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse sends this note:

Perfect fall herb-planting time is here! Buy any herb plant offered by Dogwood Valley Greenhouse on the market (designated by “Herb Plant” in front of the name), and I will also give you a Stevia plant for free! I have some nice Stevia plants (see picture in listing), but they aren’t winter-hardy, and I have no way to overwinter them safely. However, if you move your new Stevia plant to a slightly larger pot, you will be able to bring it inside toward the end of October, and enjoy its sweetness in your drinks and baked goods all winter. For more information about and uses of Stevia, see http://stevia.com and

http://stevia.net . Place your herb order soon, while my Stevia supplies last

Erdmann Farms will be away this week and we wish John safe travels!

Rod at Double Star Bar Farms will be taking orders this week… He and Maura are going on vacation for THREE WEEKS! Bagels freeze incredibly well so be sure to stock up!

Summer produce is still rolling in but if you haven’t tried Frontier Family Farms peas… oh my goodness! The WHOLE thing is sweet and delicious raw!

Thank you for supporting this family market!

As always, we thank L & L Contractors for their hospitality and generosity in hosting our market! Please remember them in your contracting needs! They support us so please return the support to them!

See you Wednesday!

Tracey & Ashleigh

Russellville Community Market:  TIME TO ORDER GREAT FOOD!!

Hello RCM community!

This week, we are starting our “Farmer of the Week” program to help you get to know the farmers who sell on RCM.

The first farm we are highlighting is Sunchild Flourish Farmstead. Please check out their listings this week and show your support by purchasing from them!

Sunchild Flourish Farmstead is a family-based biointensive microfarm located in Hector, AR. We began farm development late 2015, started market operations early 2016, and are still currently under development. Sunchild Flourish Farmstead is dedicated to sustainable, ethical farming by engaging in practices such as permaculture landscaping, certified organic seed and chemical sourcing, strict organic standards adherence, and stewardship of humanely-treated and free-range poultry, rabbits, and hogs.

We are currently undergoing operations to become a certified organic farm, and hope to become so by 2018. We have a few acres currently under development at our homestead, with the plans to incorporate additional sites in the near future. Currently, our products are available for market sales on a week to week basis. We offer organically grown vegetables, herbs and more.

In addition to Sunchild Farmstead, all of our growers are still producing lots of fruits, vegetables, and meats. Enjoy the last of summers bounty and order your weekly groceries from the market!

I would encourage you to invite a friend to order this week as well. New customers are always welcome :)

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday afternoon!
