WELCOME BACK! to Nom Noms Dog Treats -
She has listed some new products along with old favorites!! We are excited to have her and the treats back with the market!
Try the Fruity Pibbles— These treats are a smoothie with flour then baked. They are hand made with gluten/wheat free flour, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, apples, and water. They taste as amazing as they sound. $1.00 of every bag goes directly to local spay/neuter efforts. Your dog gets some super healthy treats and another dog gets much needed vet care.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse send this note:

Bring the garden inside for the winter! Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has a large selection of beautiful hanging baskets and houseplants to help make your winter home more comfortable by raising the humidity and the oxygen content of the air a little bit. The multi-colored foliage of our Rex begonias and various-colored blooms of our Christmas cacti will really raise your spirits during the dreary winter months. Our Aloe vera plants will help heal cuts and burns from winter-time cooking. And our wandering Jews and spider plants in two colors will fill your windows with green and colorful foliage. I also have two very large hanging baskets, one Swedish ivy and one blooming flame violet, which would make spectacular gifts for the gardener with a winter birthday. Check out our beautiful houseplants, and add one to your home, or that of a friend, this week!

Rocky Glade Farm is with us this week and then begin an every other week schedule. When the sunshine returns, in the Spring, they will be back full time! Stock up each week so you don’t miss your favorites.

Jenny with Seeds of Success has added a Split Pea Soup~ This soup imparts a subtle smoky flavor, without using meat. To promote prosperity in the New Year, it also includes black-eyed peas. CLG:  Opening Bell: NEW GROWER! Greens, Purple Hull Peas, Bratwurst!

Happy New Year!
We are starting 2017 off with a NEW GROWER! Many of you were lucky enough to meet Elizabeth Calvert from Arkavalley Farm as she was sampling out her delicious Sourdough Bread at Friday’s market. Each week she will be baking about a dozen loaves for CLG. Enjoy!

Several of you asked about spinach. Eddie at Kellogg Valley Farm told me he will have some in a couple of weeks. He had plenty but the protective covering blew off on one of those 14 degree nights. :-(

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

Check out 450 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Dothan, Alabama:  Market at Dothan is Open! Happy New Year!

Wishing You and Yours A

IMPORTANT MARKET ANNOUNCEMENT

It has been one year since I took over management of Market At Dothan. Many of you remember those early 2016 sad disasters masquarading as newsletters. I am so grateful for the kind patience and support of both our vendors and customers during these 12 months. Most of you have no idea how your observations, ideas and advice have helped to improve Market policies and procedures.

We are still transitioning! One of the things I kept bumping into via customer remarks over the year concerned the organization of our Market (ordering) page. I’m happy to tell you that it should be much easier to navigate now.

If you’ve not looked yet it’s ok to do it now (click here). We welcome honest feedback and hope the change will make it easier for you to find what you want or need. Mrs. Melody, who has been with us a long time said this: “I took a look at the new website as you requested and I really like it. Its going to be much easier to navigate because you can click on the category of things you want to purchase and see everything available. As I told you before if I was looking for eggs and scrolled to the “E” section I wouldn’t always find all the eggs available because some vendors would list them as “fresh” or “free range” they would be under “F” and I wouldn’t find them. I think this is a great idea and I think the other customers are going to like it as well.”

It’s important to know that you CAN STILL LOOK UP SPECIFIC VENDORS. Under the category listings is a box called “Display Options”. This is where you can choose one or more vendors to view. Please take advantage of that function often as all our growers are wonderful and deserve the limelight.

Lastly, THANK YOU to all our vendors who helped with this project. Many hands make light work and I couldn’t ask to work with a better group of folks. Here’s to a better year in 2017!

Blessings to You and Yours,
Ros

Russellville Community Market:  The Future of RCM

We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year, and express our appreciation for everyone’s involvement with Russellville Community Market over the years. We also appreciate everyone’s feedback via the recent survey about the market.

Over the years, the RCM board and our market managers have made diligent efforts to grow the market and improve its function. During the last year, these efforts included significant financial commitments to advertising, market promotions, and to paying a market manager. Unfortunately, our efforts to grow the market have not resulted in an increased income level that will allow us to continue to pay a market manager and we have been unable to identify a reliable person to make a long term commitment to take over the market manager position as a volunteer.

As a result, the RCM board met on December 16th to make some difficult decisions about the future of RCM. Below is a summary of our discussion and conclusions:

In the event that a viable solution for moving forward with market management cannot be found, RCM will shut down for the foreseeable future after the market on Thursday, January 12th.

The RCM board will take the coming months to think about the future of the market and come to the March RCM board meeting with ideas about ways to move forward and possibly reopen the market. We invite people from the RCM community to offer ideas for sustainable ways forward, to nominate new RCM board members who are passionate about local food, and to consider making a commitment to volunteering as a market manager. If you would like to share any ideas you may have, please don’t hesitate to contact Bryan Mader at bryanrmader@yahoo.com, at 913-636-8193 (call or text) or through the RCM email address at russellvillecommunitymarket@gmail.com.

During the RCM board meeting on the first Thursday of March, the RCM board will consider our options and decide whether to attempt to reopen the market under an alternative management model or close the market permanently. People from the RCM community are encouraged to share ideas in the interim and/or attend the RCM board meeting in March.

Once again, we appreciate everyone’s involvement with RCM over the years and we hope we can find a sustainable way to continue to support the availability of fresh, local food for the community and good livelihoods for our local farmers.

With that said, we will have two markets before our closure on January 12th. We will be having a market on January 5th and on January 12th.

If you have any further questions or comments, please contact us at the email/phone listed above.

Thank you

Duette, FL:  French Filet Beans

Happy New Year everyone. To start this year off with flavor, our newest vege is French Beans, or Haricots Verts (French for “French Bean”). They are also referred to as French green beans, fine beans, and filet beans, a variety of green beans that is longer, thinner, crispier, and tenderer than your average green bean. You no longer have to go to a fine restaurant to enjoy these beans. We have them right here at Duette Locally Grown for you enjoyment. We also have Italian green beans and our regular green beans. Please have a look at what we have to offer and place your orders.
Thank you.

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
