Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Time to Order Fresh Local Farm Products!

Good morning!

I (Linda) am very sorry to have had to miss last week’s market. I tripped over a cat on the stairs and took a nasty fall onto my hip and shoulder, but I’m hoping to be healed and back at market on Thursday. I appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. And I appreciate Michael carrying on in my absence. And all this after threatening winds postponed the market on Thursday! What a week!

The market is open as usual, and will remain open for your orders till Tuesday at 10 pm. Please be sure to read the section of the page entitled “Important Ordering and Pickup Information.”

Farm News of the Week

Kountry Vittles will be away for a couple of weeks, caring for a family medical emergency. Molly asked me to apologize to her customers.

From Amy at Solace Farm:
We have added several new items this week. With alpaca shearing this next week, I’ve been motivated to process some of last year’s fleece before I get more, so there are wool dryer balls in the household cleaners section, with the laundry soap (now in a new Sunflower fragrance). I’ve also listed raw alpaca fleece for any crafters or handspinners out there, or anyone with friends or family who are – alpaca is amazing to both spin and wear. I’ve also added a listing for custom-made felted stuffed animals – alpacas, lambs and chickens made from our alpaca wool. These are great for kids, of course – I especially sell white lambs as unique, lasting baby gifts.

I’ve added dishwasher powder, in both unscented and a eucalyptus-lime fragrance. Lastly, I’ve listed some classic lard soap, at a great price! This is a really nice soap, made mostly from local ingredients, so I’m able to keep my costs very low to to give the customer a quality, affordable, everyday soap. If you’re interested in the story behind this soap stop by my blog at www.SolaceFarmHomestead.com and read all about it.

From the website http://caseyfamilyfarm.com/:
Fresh, Pasteurized Cream Line Milk

The Casey Family Farm is run by Dennis and Lois Casey of Viola, Tennessee. We have lived in the Viola valley for the past 21 years. Our five children were fortunate enough to grow up in the foothills of Warren county, and now there is another generation growing up in these same foothills.

Dennis Casey has worked with beef and dairy cattle for the past 35 years. Our dream has been to have a small dairy like our grandparents had years ago. We want to produce high quality, rich milk that is as close to “from the cow” freshness as possible.

We have had Holstein, Jersey, and Guernsey cows throughout the years. Why not milk Holsteins like everybody else? We decided that our priority would be quality rather than quantity. Guernseys are very difficult to find, but they produce a unique, rich yellow milk that is high in beta carotene and butterfat. We started out with a Jersey herd, but obtained some registered Guernseys from farm sales. We were fortunate enough to have a Guernsey herd bull so that we could start to breed our own. Jerseys are hardy animals with an excellent butterfat. Our desire was to develop a hardier Guernsey herd that would produce rich milk. We have a small herd and we want to keep it that way. Each cow has access to pasture and/or hay year round, as well as grain and receives lots of individual attention. We believe that gives our milk a special, fresh taste that is very unique and different from what you will get in the store.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has some more new additions this week:

Balloon flower and Beard-tongue. Please check the market for other additions.
