Market News

Good morning market family! Cannot believe it is May already! Bring on the shorts, sweet corn and summer vegetables ;D

First things first though, Linda with Dogwood Valley Greenhouse send this note:
Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has too many choices for your Mother’s Day shopping! We have added to the market several types of lovely flowering hanging baskets and some colorful planters with violas, snapdragons, and dianthus. Please check out our new terracotta herb planters as well. We’ve added a limited number of adorable miniature carnation “gardens in a vase.” And last, we have some tomato and pepper plants in gallon containers for Mother’s vegetable garden. Don’t forget about our beautiful perennial plants for Mother’s favorite garden spot (sun or shade, we have them all); herb plants for her culinary, medicinal, or ornamental garden; and foliage hanging baskets for her porch or patio. I will even be glad to deliver your purchase of $25 or more on Saturday if you prefer not to keep it for several days.

Catherine with Flying S Farms has added SLICED bread to her loaf offerings! If you are a clutz with the bread knife, THIS is your answer! You can still purchase her loaves unsliced if you are the “tear a hunk and eat it” lover! Awesome to have this option, Thanks Catherine!

Short Mountain Cultures is working with two new vendors this week. Nature’s Cornerstone and Wise Butter are both locally owned and operated but live just a bit too far to make it to market! Enter folks who love supporting local and want to bring some of the products they know and love to our market! Each product will clearly state who the maker is and about them!
We appreciate this opportunity to widen the offerings for our market!

If you took the milk survey, THANK YOU! We will have more information very soon!

Botanical Harmony Farm will have sprouts back next week. This week they add a garlic, mullein ear oil for minor ear aches/pain associated with seasonal colds and allergies. Our organically grown garlic along with wild harvested mullein flowers bring a gentle antibiotic effect and soothing pain relief. This ear oil is also wonderful for loosening wax in the ear and perfect for use before and after ear candling. Quantities are limited until this year’s mullein harvest and shelf life can be prolonged in the refrigerator!

Check out what Quinn’s Mercantile has inside that is perfect for Mother’s Day gifts~ Fill a beautiful basket that mom will go nuts over!

See ya on the porch!

Greener Acres Farm:  Spring Tea and Veggie Plants

Spring Tea and Veggie Plants

New this week:

* Sassafras root from Green"er" Acres Farm

Our highly-prized sassafras root is harvested in the spring from our own patch behind our house. Cleaned and dehydrated and stored. We enjoy this refreshing root as a tea that was used by Native Americans as a “spring tonic,” to “purify the blood of winter stagnation.” This shrub or small tree is the first plant to come to life in the spring. When brewed, it develops a pleasing red tea that is highly aromatic. We drink it not only in the spring, but all year.
(Brewing instructions are included with every purchase.)
Available in 4 ounce, 8 ounce and 1 pound.

* Veggie plants and Flower boxes from Rispoli’s Produce

Healthy veggie transplants to plant out in your gardens (if it ever stops raining) include yellow pear tomato plants, beefsteak tomato plants, and dinosaur, redbor and russian kale plants.
They also have beautiful blooming flower boxes.

* Apple Dumplings & Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Brownies

We are very proud and excited to introduce our newest producer to our line-up… Bake Shop Bakes. Andy has sold his yummy baked goods at many local farmers markets and stores for many years. He is now back and offering his delicious baked goods direct to you.
Fresh baked apple dumplings and chocolate chunk peanut butter brownies are delicious with fresh whipped cream, ice cream or refreshing milk.

* Bulk Packages of Grass-Fed Beef Still Available

Clover Creek Cheese Cellar continues to carry their 10 pound packages of their own grass-fed beef. Each pound individually wrapped and frozen.

* Temporarily Out of Stock of Hickory Smoked Salt

Heritage Hills Farm is sorry to announce that they are currently sold out of their Hickory Smoked Salt. Their smokehouse was damaged by fire a few weeks ago, but they are going to be rebuilding soon.

And don’t forget all of our other fabulous products such as eggs, pork, chicken, fresh produce, herbs, milk and cheese, and so much more.

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
