Late reminder to you this week.

There are lots of greens, very delicious green chard (very similiar to spinach), rainbow chard, and Red Russian Kale are the most bountiful so I’m offering a two for one special. It freezes well, if you’re making smoothies and worry it won’t last till next time you come. Also several lettuces, including live in pots. First radishes, claytonia and rhubarb now available.

I have excellent active compost ammended with microbes and minerals. $3/bushel (35L) or $60 a cubic yard (22 bu in a cu yd). Bring your own containers or trailer.

Don’t forget beef and chicken, pastured and grass fed (well, not the chicken so much!)

I hope you’re paying attention to Kinder Morgan pipeline protests: it really has the potential to shift the conversation to ‘do whatever it takes’ to protect ourselves and our children from runaway climate disruption. See my facebook page for best articles.

Foothills Market is open until noon today. Remember to shop the market for fresh, locally-grown produce and meats. We’ll have it ready for you tomorrow.

Eat something fresh this week!

Yalaha, FL:  Kale on Sale, Still time to order this week

I just put the big bags of Crinkly Green Kale on Sale, we have lots of it now, time to stock up before the summer heat sets in and wipes it out.

We rip out the stem and wash the leaves, dry them and put them in large bags (all fluffed up) in the freezer. Once they are frozen we can crunch them all up to take up less space. Then it is perfect for scooping into your smoothie cup for green smoothie drinks. I keep almost all my smoothie ingredients in the freezer and make up 7 cups at a time, then all I need to do most mornings is pull out the cup, add the liquid and powder and blend it up.

Miami County Locally Grown:  Chez Nous Farm needs your help!

Caroline McColloch of Chez Nous Farm in Piqua has quite a story to share…

She has been working hard the past five years on the farm she inherited from her grandparents. It’s been an uphill battle improving the existing infrastructure, converting row crop farmland into permanent wildlife and pollinator habitat, removing honeysuckle, bringing honeybees and cover crops to her land…

And after building her business plan and attending various marketing, production, and business management workshops/classes for beginning farmers, Caroline is ready to undertake her newest project – organic red raspberry production in a 30×96 ft high tunnel for season extension!

And now it gets even more interesting! Caroline has turned to KIVA, an international 501c3 organization for crowd-sourcing microloans to farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs… and folks like Caroline, where 100% of every dollar lent on KIVA goes to funding loans. Their mission is to connect people thru lending to alleviate poverty, and they help borrowers fund projects as varied as starting or expanding a business, going to school, accessing clean water and energy – a matter of survival for some, and the fuel for a life-long ambition for others!

Here’s how it works – Caroline finds 15 people each willing to LOAN her $25 for her project – and if she meets her requirement of 15 loans for operating capital, KIVA will open her project up to their global platform for the remaining $2,000 necessary for the completion of her project!

These are not donations, folks – she simply needs 7 more people to loan her $25 thru the following KIVA link, www.kiva.org/lend/1487837!

You can click on that link to read more of her story and of the program – but the deadline to join her current lenders and help her project come to fruition is NEXT WED April 18th at 3pm!!

Repayments begin 6 months after the loan capital is dispersed. Lenders use a credit card thru paypal on the site – it’s very simple, fascinating, and wothwhile!
